Should the video camera become a more important form of documentation than written records, as the author alleges? The author claim so, for reason that he or she believe the video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life. In a sense, I tend to concede that today the video camera is important for us. However, I do not completely side with this statement because the author claims the view by overlooking the crucial rule of another issue and unfairly give them a second priority. In my point of view, written record is still irreplaceable and merits further advocation.

To begin with, the video camera gives us another option between traditional record and modern record. Indeed the vivid images it produces succeed in the education of children, who are much more inclined to accept visual information than abstract letters or characters. Since the development of television, the video camera raises our consciousness by providing the latest vivid images of news and discoveries, extending our horizon by such documentary programs such as “National Geographic” and “Discovery”, whose contents might otherwise be unapproachable in an entire lifetime.

Secondly, even though the video can provide such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life and phenomena, it is not used as frequently as written records. Video cameras are too expensive for many people, especially in developing nations. Moreover, the written document is far more convenient method of recording in many occasions. (帮我想个例子吧，这段写不下去了)

In addition, even the video become cheaper for us and convenient method of recording, it also can not competently provide insight into mind. The great mind does not be recorded by the video camera. To illustrate this point clearly, we can see the example as fellow. Einstein Albert, the great scientist, is German-born American theoretical physicist who’s special and general theories of relativity revolutionized modern thought on the nature of space and time and formed a theoretical base for the exploitation of atomic energy. He won a 1921 Noble Prize for his explanation of the photoelectric effect. Therefore, these outstanding theories are not recorded by any modern method.

To sum up, I fundamentally disagree with the conclusion that the video camera becomes a more important form of documentation than written records. There is no fixed standard to judge the fundamentality between traditional records and modern records. In fact, they all directly contribute to the development of society and the advancement of human being.
