76The following appeared as part of an article in a health and beauty magazine.
"A group of volunteers participated in a study of consumer responses to the new Luxess face cream. Every morning for a month, they washed their faces with mild soap and then applied Luxess. At the end of that month, most volunteers reported a marked improvement in the way their skin looked and felt. Thus it appears that Luxess is truly effective in improving the condition of facial skin."


The article in the health and beauty magazine draws a conclusion that Luxess is truly
effective in improving the condition of facial skin which is based on a recent study of
consumer responses to the new Luxess face cream.Nonetheless, as far as I am concerned, it is
not logical and persuasive.


To begin with, the survey lack specific and convincing details about the participant. In the
article, they only mention the participants are a group of volunteers ,nothing about the
participants themselves, such as age range and facial skin condition. Without those details
,they can not conclude that Luxess is truly effective in improving our facial skin. For
example, if most of volunteers are 20-30 years old young ladies, their facial skin get
improvement indeed, but we can not judge that it would be effective in old men's facial skin,
because of different facial skin condition and something else.


Moreover, there is no evidence that it is Luxess that improve volunteers' facial skin.There
may be some other reasons caused the improvement. For instance, the weather would lead to
different facial skin condition. In summer, people skin tends to contain more water than that
of in winter. Because of more exercise in summer than other seasons, harmful matters would be
release throughout the sweat. Also, the mild soap may be the true reason that cause the
improving facial skin condition. Because all the volunteers use it when they washed their
faces.


Finally, the statistic of the survey is not objective and even may be inaccurate. The result
is a collection of people's subjective feeling . They can not prove that their facial skin
condition truly get a marked improvement. All the warrants that their facial skin has been
improved is their skin looked and felt. Without any scientific proof , the conclusion is not
convincing and persuasive.


To sum up, due to the above problems, the arguer fails to convince me of the conclusion that
Luxwess is truly effective in improving the condition of facial skin. More detailed
information are needed. To better evaluate the conclusion, the arguer should also consider
other factors that may affect the condition of the skin.
