Issue 147: Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them.
提纲：1、社会的进步使得人们面对一个事实：传统与现代的矛盾
      2、时间是持续不断的，作为历史的一部分传统是必须的，他连接着未来，没有传统也就没有现代。
3、传统不意味着落后，而现代也不意味着先进。人不能否认他的过去。          我们需要在二者之间寻求一个平衡点

In recent twenty years the whole world, to change with each passing day, is developing more and more quickly. In the context of globalization the world is standing on a crossing that holding tradition or the opposition—modernization. With the high rising speed of economics, sociologists and anthropologists even the ordinary people consider it is necessarily to seek for balance which is really crucial between tradition and modernization, rather than just choosing one piece.

Clearly due to this aroused deliberation, there is no doubt on the huge difference in these two ones that seems seriously. In China, the argument of how to prolong the development is flooding in the mass media. We can easily find these performances on TV just in a few days gap, or seeing a huge advertising of seminar in the newspapers. Most Young prefer living in modern society that could provide iPods, PSP, internet and the same things what they appreciate, while middle-agers are more conservative and tend to protect tradition. These two perceptions bring us to face to the truth: tradition is at variance with modernization.

However, some one might fail to recognize that time is continuing and as one part of history, tradition is necessary and also, more importantly, it links to the modernization. Tradition refers to the beliefs, values, customs, and way of life that result in handing down from generation to generation. American inherit the spirit of bold exploration and believing in God from their ancestors, Chinese succeed to bear hardship and persistence from their ancestors, Germen reserve the character of fair and precise from their ancestors. Tradition plays as identification and a sense of belonging to a person, like roots to trees, father to son, and the nation to an individual. Take South Korea as an example. It is a small country which locates at East Asia that is border to Northeast of China. Recently because of improving the quality of living condition, government of South Korea begins to pay much attention on history in order to prove themselves and enhance self-esteem. It had ever been subsidiary country of Old China and have the same origination of one nations of China—Chaoxian.  These all point out that without tradition, there would never be today.

Furthermore, modernization delivers industrialization, civilization, institutionalization that extremely enriches our lives and community. If we considered tradition as moral value, modernization would be material civilization. Through 3 times industry revolution embrace great changes along with the world’s 200 years opening up, we progress the times from fire to electric era. Machines lead us to a fresher automation world. We can get in touch with friends living in everywhere, cook food in oven only with a few minutes, study effectively through online class. We can reach to New York from Shanghai in one day using airplane that is impossible in past. Modern technology even fosters scientists to research the precious heritages leaving underground or in historic monuments. Therefore, modernization is vital to our future.

Admittedly, tradition does not mean outmode and straggling as well as modernization does not always mean advanced and evolutional. Coincident with high speed of modernization is deliberatively keeping balance between tradition and modernization that is what we need to do right now. When we concern about our future, which one of tradition should be eliminated and which one should be retained that will contribute to our society is the correct way to carry forwardly.

Overall, one can never deny his tradition when chasing for future. Owing to the mutual promotion of tradition and modernization among reorganization, we are living and dying for what one wonderful condition.
