If Nelson Mandela  was a person who only cares about his own interest, the evil segregation law might still exists in the south Africa. And if Abraham Lincoln did not hold the idealistic belief that every human beings was borned equal, the slavery might still consist part of the American society, or at least the emancipation of the slaves would be delayed a hundred years around. Idealistic views benefit the society a lot in the long term, and help draw the outline of a prosperous and peaceful society.
