The speaker asserts that if there is no outsiders' knowledge and experience the study of a field cannot advance significantly. In my own opinion, the knowledge and experience from other fields can play a important role in the development of a field; however, only that is enough for a field to gain significant improvement.

In the first place, since the knowledge has developed faster than ever before, the knowledge of many field becoming be interrelated with others. A representative example of this point is the connection between physics and biology. As we know, in order to study biology at the molecular, even smaller, level outsiders' knowledge are necessary for the traditionally methods (microscope for example) cannot work in such small elements. In this case, the electronic microscope which is used in the study of physics can give a hand. Another case in point is the discovery of the structure of DNA, the discovery was made by three scientist coming from biology, physics and chemistry. Moreover, the environment problems confronted with us also need the help from chemistry and biology. We can see from the examples that along with the development of science and technology, there is no field can prevent itself from contacting with others.

Additionally, outsider can bring new method and ideas to a field, which may greatly help the development of that field.  We can also take the DNA for example, in today's society the research of the characteristics of DNA is a quite important and energetic area. Is DNA conductor, semiconductor or insulator? What about the electronics' behavior in the string of DNA? In order to give right answer to these questions, physicists and biologists even chemists should work together and make best use of the knowledge in their own field. Because the new problems our scientist faced is new and unfamiliar with them, and it is impossible for a scientist to solve the problem just using the knowledge of his own field alone, without knowing other fields'.

On the other hand, there are also other factors can influence the improvement of an area. We also admit that the improvement of a field is a complex issue and many factors should be taken into consideration, such as the support of the government, the funding on that field, the excellent individuals, the basis of that field even the steady of the society. Only all these factors function together well can a field receive enough strength to propel it toward.  

Judging from what I discussed above, we can draw the conclusion that a field should not only receive the concepts of outsiders but also need a good environment in order to thrive.
