65The following appeared in a memo from the president of a chain of cheese stores located throughout the United States.

"For many years all the stores in our chain have stocked a wide variety of both domestic and imported cheeses. Last year, however, the five best-selling cheeses at our newest store were all domestic cheddar(切达干酪) cheeses from Wisconsin. Furthermore, a recent survey by Cheeses of the World magazine indicates an increasing preference  for domestic cheeses among its subscribers(订户). Since our company can reduce expenses by limiting inventory, the best way to improve profits in all of our stores is to discontinue stocking many of our varieties of imported cheese and concentrate primarily on domestic cheeses."

The author hastily claims that the stores should terminate to sell different varieties of cheeses, and only be open to domestic kind, owing to several evidences such as the selling review and a certain survey prove it. But as to many insufficient facts, this conclusion unconvince me.

First, the newest store can not be representative presentative for all chains, because supposing the amount of  deficit reaches over 1000, the assumption based on one profitable store seems ridiculous. It is possible that the store locating a place, where the domestic cheeses concentrated and particularly, most residents there favor this kind, contributing to the high revenue of this store. Moreover, may be the statusqo？ is collected in the peak season of domestic cheeses, for the impact of the large amount providing. Even though the store really keeps its profits continuously, the entire chain shops, a boarder concept and region, will also far away form affecting by its sole increase. And we can imagine that, there was a time that several stores are as same profitable as it is now, but the slack tendency comes subsequently. Hence, absence of the convincing reason to justify this ratiocination, the assertion seems hard to be trusted.

Another evidence is a recent survey of a certain chesses magazine, provided to advocate that the increasing subscribers is on behalf of a surge of interest on domestic pattern. But he or she fails to provide us evidence what those respondents' backgrounds are, and whether they are selected in a random manner, to ensure the justice of the research. The increasingly preference for domestic chesses is not substantial to reveal  most people's favor for it, since the increase can be resulted from an assumption that major subscribers are producers of domestic chesses, so it is not hard to speculate on that they are inclined to this kind. In another hand, there may exist a possibility that other additional choice are ignored, such as the interest of overseas varieties, leading to the tendentious result.

Finally, apart form the credence of those consequence and survey, so unreasonable is the conclusion that we can not make, which claims that profits are obvious. We have to take into account for the cost of buying those domestic cheeses. Probably, due to the high price of national labors, or national corresponding articles' boundary, all the revenues will not reach the large amount stock of these cheeses, therefore, the profit tendency can not be promoted to the nationwide scope.

Preventing from inducing commercial mistakes, when it comes to the improvement of the selling variety of chains, author should offer more justified survey--excluded form a certain group, and the proper conclusion from the research--covering wider information of all chains. Resulting from all the above, the claim will be not accepted.
