------题目------
Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive, because it is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated.
------正文------
The speaker asserts that major cities are the main place to preserve and generate nation's cultural tradition. Accordingly, governments have the obligation to give financial support to them, in order to make them thrive. I generally agree with the speaker to certain degree that governments' financial support can help major cities to preserve and hand down nation's cultural traditions. However, governments' interference with cultural business may harm the culture itself, and, although major cities can preserve cultural traditions, they are not the generators of them.

Firstly, governments' financial support can benefit major cities' cultural prosperity, generally. Funds from governments can bring money, human efforts, public support, etc. which are needed for major cities to preserve nation's cultural traditions. With these supports, highly qualified cultural activities such as festivals, concerts, special events, museum exhibitions could be possible. These activities provide an opportunity to both culture traditions and common citizens who are the owners of these traditions to meet each other. As a result, cultural tradition gets the chance to thrive in the process of interacting with its people.

However, not all bureaucratic interferences are good for preserving nation's cultural traditions, or even do harm to them. Government officials are too likely to base their decisions on political benefits, not for culture's sake. For this reason, they can’t play an evenhanded role as cultural supporters. They lack good sense to decide which traditions should be preserved against other ones. And policy makers might be affected by some lobbyists with the most money, influence and biased cultural perspectives in making decisions. As a result, the tradition chose to be preserved is not based on its true value in historical and cultural perspectives, but politicians’ benefits. Meanwhile, some priceless traditions will disappear because of government officials' ignorance and lack of good sense.

Additionally, the speaker mistakenly addressed that nation's cultural traditions are primarily generated by major cities. In the time of globalization, modern major cities are essentially multicultural, and become the showcase for fashions that dominating the world as a whole simultaneously. There's no enough room for nation's cultural traditions in major cities. On the contrary, it is the rural areas where nation's cultural traditions are really generated. Folk singers, craftsman, folk artists who are less known to us are generators and representatives of our nation's cultural traditions.

Moreover, the cultural traditions major cities preserved are used to attract foreigners, and cannot represent nation's cultural traditions as a whole. Nowadays, major cities become the window for natives to exhibit their culture to foreigners. As a result, culture traditions showed in major cities are for the purpose of broadcasting and advertising. Those traditions that are not fit for this purpose are brutally cut away by cultural activity managers. Therefore, if we primarily use major cities to preserve cultural traditions in this era of globalization, it would turn out to be misleading indeed.

In sum, financial support from government can provide money to help preserving nation's cultural traditions in major cities to some degree. However, policy makers usually lack the good sense to decide which tradition to preserve and will be biased by lobbyists in order to maintain their political benefits. Moreover, major cities are not the generators of nation's cultural traditions, and the traditions they presented are typical ones which are used to attract foreign visitors, not the true ones.

Goodall's mother once told her:
"Jane, if you really want to do something, you work hard, you stick to it until there's an opportunity."

当作今天的任务晚上我来分配修改吧。
"I will act," says Don Quixote, "as if the world were what I would have it to be, as if the ideal were real..."
