Can the achievement of individuals only be decided by their descendants but not their contemporaries, as the speaker contends? Although I agree that people who live after those individuals can evaluate their accomplishment more accurate and objective, there is many immediate recognitions by their contemporaries.
I agree with the statement insofar as descendants have several advantages to assess the greatness of their forerunners. In the science realm, important theories always generated as outrageous or at least uncomfortable attacks to challenge the accepted wisdom. Most residents were influenced by the existing ideas or authorial celebrities at(这里要用in吧?) that era– (这里要有空格吧?)consciously or unconsciously. The great impacts from the accepted wisdoms strongly affect their attitudes to the innovated ideas or inventions. Besides, their comments to them were restrained by the poor technologies and equipments of experiments. On the contrary, people who live after the figures possess more advanced scientific techniques and sufficient knowledge about(这里好像用的不合适,让这句话意思有点不通) the evolution of the new theory and even its practicality. They can use superior methods to confirm it by numerous distinct experiments. Consider, for example, people in the modern world can use various superior measures such as quantum spectrum or electron collision experiment to substantiate it while individuals at that time can only make some inference on it. Based on the reliable statistics from the effective experiments, people who live after the figures can evaluate their greatness more completely and efficiently.
In the politics realm, some valuable ideas need time to prove their truth. This is particularly manifest in the political realm.(这里感觉有点重复,用了两次in the politics realm,改成这么说好不好:In the politics realm, it is particularly manifest that some valuable ideas need time to prove their truth.) Whether a policy is supposed to serve the general public, or just satisfy the greedy ambitions of the leadership can be determined(删掉) cannot be determined by the contemporaries but by the descendants. Consider Adolph Hitler, his acclamations for bringing the citizens of Germany excessive resources and superficial living conditions obsessed almost all the Germanys at that time. However, to achieve his private aggression for politics, the whole Germany was plunged into the disaster-the Second World War which was proved a massacre in the human history. After all, our descendants have better understanding of the deduction of our society and the evolution of our political mechanisms. Additionally, they undertake far more influences of the previous strategies made by the former political leaders so that their comments of the greatness of the forerunners are more justifiable and objective.
In the philosophy realm, a person's accomplishments can be recognized only in retrospect, by those who after the figure. Take Kant-one of the most famous philosophers in the world, for example. His grand ideas(,) which were against the typically accepted metaphysics in his era(,) have ever been consider as the desecration for the dominant religious faith. However, until his death had the truth of his critical theories been recognized by the descendants whose views toward the philosophy became more(咦?这里是没写完吗?)
On the other hand, people who live in the same time with those figures also can put high light on their accomplishments. We do not require a retrospect to confirm some artistic greatness-whether in music, painting, or literature, because the talent artists and their accomplishments can be recognized immediately. History is replete with examples of artistic accomplishment immediately be(这里是不是要用were啊?) recognized, then later confirmed. Shakespeare's works such as Hamlet are prevailing in the era of Naissance and even today's readers prefer reading them than other literatures. Beethoven was regarded as the most influenced composer and musician at his life time(lifetime) and his works, for example, Hero, were constantly praised by people in the modern world.
In sum, though the descendants indeed have several advantages to assess the achievements of their predecessors in some realms, to determine the individuals' greatness is not merely hinged on the evaluations of them but also (of) people who live with those figures at the same era.
嗯,这篇写的很好啊,论证的也很有力,学习学习~~~:lol |
