TOPIC：ISSUE 226 - "People are mistaken when they assume that the problems they confront are more complex and challenging than the problems faced by their predecessors. This illusion is eventually dispelled with increased knowledge and experience."

It is commonly believed that current problems are far more complicated and difficult to settle than past ones. However, in my opinion, there are still a number of problems referring to the nature of humanity remain the same through the transformation of history and also human would gain their ability to solve those annoying problems by increasing their knowledge and experience.

On the one hand, it is unwise to complain the complex problems which modern people have to face to, since in many fields, the ancients and we are puzzled by similar dilemmas. The human civilization has been developing for thousands of years while the essence of the humanity remains a lot: our human are all the time curious about the unknown world; we are still conflicting with our inner evils; people are still amazed at the power of the nature and human imagination. Therefore, when human comes to certain essential social and cultural problems, we tend to think of them in a set mode-- how should we choose between peace and war? How should we accept traditional heritages? These problems are eternally along with our human society. Also, human are still seeking to get the proper explanations of some universal questions, such as where is the God or what is the goal of the universe.

On the other hand, as our society is improving in a dramatic rate and human is researching deeper into some objects, more challenging problems are brought up. In the social aspect, nowadays military, environmental and economic problems are almost impossible for our predecessors to believe. When the primitives were hunting to satisfy their hungry, how could they know to preserve the natural resources? Even when the ancient nations planned to start a war, how could they take into account the threat of the nuclear weapons?  In the scientific aspect, the current experts are arguing on the advanced quantum mechanics while people in the 18th century were still dealing with the Newton mechanics which seems much easier. In a word, the complication of problems coincides with the development of the levels of civilization and science.

Although our society is sometimes faced to more complex and challenging problems than ever before, as we human enlarge our database of knowledge and experience, we would definitely find a way to solve them or simplify them. For example, the society is hoped to solve the conflict between pollution and industry (although it seems to take hundreds of years or even more), and by then we might no longer consider the environmental problem as a "challenging" one, which may mean the emergence of other more complicated problems--actually, the human civilization is just developing with such a problem-solving process.

In sum, we can not partially assume that the current problems are simply more complex and challenging than before and we must believe in human's intelligence and power to solve all the current difficulty.

Also, human are still seeking to get the proper explanations of some universal questions, such as where is the God or what is the goal of the universe. 语言很好，两难的选择似乎不需要知识的增长，经验积累。所以按照逻辑，它一直就是难的。过去难，现在难，将来也可能会难下去。但是我的个人观点是，战争与和平，贫穷饥饿等两难问题事牵扯了很多的相关因素，因为需要很多的方法综合处理，而其中总是有一两个绝对因素在一个时期难以解决，所以两难才成为复杂的难题从过去到现在，而其内涵其实可能已经转变（饥饿为例，过去是产量低，现在是人口多）。这里作为set mode讲，似乎有缺陷。
