"Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively."

Words:546

The speaker asserts that students should be skeptical of their study rather than passively accept whatever they have been taught. As far as I am concerned, I basically concur with the speaker because a certain skepticism does good for both students and teachers and it also make great contribution to the progress of science.

First of all, skepticism is of great significance in students’ study. As an essential part of critical thinking, it helps students gain an insight into the knowledge. Balzac, a famous French writer has said, the key to the learning is the question. Skepticism motivates students to think deeply about the information they have been indoctrinated. Accordingly, they will be active in the study and find their own thought towards the problems. Einstein has said, “the question is more important that the answer.” Study, to some extend, is just the learning of question which exert a profound influence on the thorough research and the deep thought of students.

The second reason why I agree with the speaker is that teachers can also benefit from the question of students. All the people have their own ideas, no matter teachers or students. As Shakespeare has said, if there are 1000 readers, there will be 1000 Hamlets. Students often have their distinctive attitudes towards problems which may sometimes different from what they have been taught and they should dare to question, as Plato said, “Aristotle is dear to me, but dearer still is truth.”  Because by considering the students’ questions or communicating with them, teachers can also improve their own teaching methods and make themselves more perfect.

Thirdly, skepticism, as the foundation of innovation, always leads to the discovery of the truth. The theories taught to students often have a long history. Although they play an important role in the study, as the knowledge advances rapidly, some problems will eventually appear. And only through skepticism can students find the faults, revise these incorrect ideas and seek the truth. One needs look no further than the Bruno’s insistence that the universe be infinite which defied the authority of his time. But now it has been proved to be the truth of the universe. Another instance to illustrate the point clearly is Darwin’s famous theory “Origin of species” which defeated the traditional belief while is also found to be the truth of the evolution. Since not all ideas are accurate, being skeptical is indispensable to make great breakthrough, which will definitely facilitate the progress of science.

Admittedly, a certain skepticism is valuable. However, requiring students to question whatever they are taught is excessive. Many of the past theories, which have been proved to be true for a long time, still have their authority and are of no use to be questioned. Moreover, nowadays, students need to study various things in order to broaden their horizons and improve their abilities. Yet both their time and energy are limited. If lots of them were spent in the unnecessary skepticism, the rest left to learning will reduce. Under such circumstance, the question is definitely unworthy.

In conclusion, skepticism helps students improve their ability of critical thinking and help teachers perfect their teaching methods. It also play an important part in the progress of science. Nevertheless, its use should not be exaggerated.

The speaker asserts that students should be skeptical of their study rather than passively accept whatever they have been taught. As far as I am concerned, I basically concur with the speaker because a certain skepticism does good for both students and teachers and it also make great contribution to the progress of science.[观点明确]

[skepticism =question>answer,第一层逻辑论述有点重复,第二层缺乏比较。最好把缺乏skepticism对教育产生的影响也说明一下,从而有力证实skepticism在教育中的积极作用]

The second reason why I agree with the speaker is that teachers can also benefit from the question of[from] students. All the people have their own ideas, no matter [我觉的用“也包括”好一点,no matter的感觉是将all the people分为teachers 和 students两类,你觉得呢]teachers or students. As Shakespeare has said, if there are 1000 readers, there will be 1000 Hamlets.[引用的好,佩服你知道这么多名人名言] Students often have their distinctive attitudes towards problems which may sometimes different from what they have been taught and they should dare to question, as Plato said, “Aristotle is dear to me, but dearer still is truth.”  Because by considering the students’ questions or communicating with them, teachers can also improve their own teaching methods and make themselves more perfect.

Another instance to illustrate the point clearly is Darwin’s famous theory “Origin of species” which defeated the traditional belief while is also found to be the truth of the evolution.[? Since not all ideas are accurate, being skeptical is indispensable to make great breakthrough, which will definitely facilitate the progress of science.

Admittedly, a certain skepticism is valuable. However, requiring students to question whatever they are taught is excessive. 好一点]Many of the past theories, which have been proved to be true for a long time, still have their authority and are of no use to be questioned. [权威,质疑是没有用的,这种说法我觉得不太好,可以从其正确性、应用性、理论价值、实用价值等科学的方面来说] [这里最好接一句students应该对待传统科学的正确态度,回应上面的excessive]Moreover, nowadays, students need to study various things in order to broaden their horizons and improve their abilities.[接一句,“而对various things的学习需要占用很多时间”,再转] Yet both their time and energy are limited. If lots of them were spent in the unnecessary skepticism[个人观点over skepticism], the rest left to learning will reduce. Under such circumstance[删去,保持与上句的连贯性], the question is definitely unworthy.[纯说理有时会不太连贯,这也是我们常出现的问题]

In conclusion, skepticism helps students improve their ability of critical thinking and help teachers perfect their teaching methods. It also play an important part in the progress of science. Nevertheless, its use should not be exaggerated.[最后一句的意思我觉得有问题,你的意思应该是说不能过分使用,而不是它的用途不应该被夸大吧]

The speaker asserts that students should be skeptical of their study rather than passively accept whatever they have been taught. As far as I am concerned, I basically concur with the speaker because a certain skepticism does good for both students and teachers and it also make great contribution to the progress of science.(简要的提出文章论点)

First of all, skepticism is of great significance in students’ study. As an essential part of critical thinking, it helps students gain an insight into the knowledge. Balzac, a famous French writer has said, the key to the learning is the question.(引用) Skepticism motivates students to think deeply about the information they have been indoctrinated. Accordingly, they will be active in the study and find their own thought towards the problems. Einstein has said, “the question is more important that the answer.”(又引) Study, to some extend, is just the learning of question which exert a profound influence on the thorough research and the deep thought of students.
The second reason why I agree with the speaker is that teachers can also benefit from the question of students. All the people have their own ideas, no matter teachers or students. As Shakespeare has said, if there are 1000 readers, there will be 1000 Hamlets.(厉害,你有好多名句哦) Students often have their distinctive attitudes towards problems which may sometimes different from what they have been taught and they should dare to question, as Plato said, (汗)“Aristotle is dear to me, but dearer still is truth.”  Because by considering the students’ questions or communicating with them, teachers can also improve their own teaching methods and make themselves more perfect.
Thirdly, skepticism, as the foundation of innovation, always leads to the discovery of the truth. The theories taught to students often have a long history. Although they play an important role in the study, as the knowledge advances rapidly, some problems will eventually appear. And only(这个有点绝对化了感觉,可以说 primarily) through skepticism can students find the faults, revise these incorrect ideas and seek the truth.

Many of the past theories, which have been proved to be true for a long time, still have their authority and are of no use to be questioned.(这个不用去质疑一些权威的观点我不是很同意,可以结合现实性,可以去不用质疑这些观点的某些部分) Moreover, nowadays, students need to study various things in order to broaden their horizons and improve their abilities.
