Issue 38 "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."

在电视时代，人们可以通过电视看到很多的东西，有的甚至是reading books不能提供的，但是reading books的作用也是不可替代的，应该在他们之间取一个平衡。
1. 的确，reading不是像以前那么重要了。以前有...现在电视具有书籍阅读无法比拟的优点。电视提供了一种更加生动的方法——图像来使人们了解各种各样的事情。例如看电视剧teleplay，人们可以在家里看他人的表演，而不需要跑到剧场theater；通过看电视，人们可以迅速了解国内外发生的重大事件，而不需要等待第二天的报纸，例如世界杯World Cup的直播。

2. 但是reading books是不能替代的，watching television并不能能提供reading books所有的东西。因为television是一种很被动的接受方式，选择太少，reading books的选择就比较多了；而且对于有些东西，例如诗歌，television受到技术的限制并不能很好的再现出其中心；而且reading不受时间、地点的限制，可以在...

The speaker asserts that reading books is a less important way of learning now than in the past, for the reason that what people get from books can also be acquired from television. While I agree that reading is not as important as before, in my view, however, reading books cannot be replaced by television in the function of learning.

Admittedly, reading is not as important as it once was. In the past, when television was not very popular, reading is almost the most important way to acquire knowledge and information. People had to read books to get what they want to know in many cases, such as news, history, literature. Once television was popularized, more and more people began to watch TV instead of reading books, for television introduced a more vivid way to provide people with knowledge and information. People need not to go to the theater for an act, for teleplays are in such a large amount that they can hardly watch through. Moreover, television is a more fast way for people to learn. Now one can watch a living broadcast of World Cup at home, whereas in the past, he/she has to wait for newspapers in the next day. Also he would prefer to see the living than the literal sentences describing the game. Comparing to reading books, television can provide a more vivid and fast way to provide some information to people.

However, reading books could not be replaced by television, for television cannot provide all things that reading books gives us. Television is a way too passive for people. When we watch TV, we have to accept the program lists TV stations offer: it is hard to get what we need. By contrast, books can provide more choices. Considering now one need to know the result of a game a year ago, how can he find it by television? But if he/she has newspapers in that time, he/she can refer to it and easily get the result. Also, restricted by technology, television cannot exhibit the essential of everything. Poems, for example, could only be appreciated in the way of reading. Once moved to television, inevitably poems will be influenced by the shooter of the video. Moreover, reading books is a way that hardly could be restricted by time and place. Almost anywhere and anytime, no matter at home or in the train, no matter in evening or midnight, one can read a book he likes. While to watch TV, one have to be in a place where there is a TV set and at the time when there are programs he loves. How inconvenient it is! TV is not so convenient and there are some things that television cannot provide but reading books can.

As a matter of fact, watching television and reading books are both ways by which people acquire information and knowledge. They are complementary in many aspects. Thus it is improper to say that one can replace the other or one can provide as much as the other. The most effective way to acquire information and technology is to utilize the advantages of both television and reading books.

To conclude, it is true that reading books is not as important as it was in the past. Nevertheless, reading books could not be replaced by television. Also it is hard to say that people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.

总的来说还不错，但是语言不是很好，有些可以避免的小错误，另外有的例证不能支撑你的论点
关于你提出的那个破题点我没写时没有考虑到，但是值得引起下注意。我觉得可以从电视节目的多样性来说明这一点，也就是用电视节目在日常生活中扮演了重要角色谈起。
