142   The well-being of a society is enhanced when many of its people question authority.

With the development of the democracy construction, many people in various fields begin to question authority. They assert that questioning authority is the symbol of the well-being for a society. In my views, fundamentally I agree with the issue since the questioning not only helps society improving on whether political, economic, and culture fields, but also discriminates wrong and right.

On one hand, questioning authority plays a important role to the well-being of a society especially when many of its people do. As for political fields, if residents in a city have many questions to the policy executed a few of days, it is no doubt that the policy maybe exist some fallacies that should be modified. For example, Martin kuther king, as the leader of black man in American history, greatly rebelled the unjust policy to the black man and win the just law at length. When it comes to economic fields, it is well known that negative economic policy will do harm to the development of economy. One needs look no further than the financial crisis in northeast Asia in 1998. False economic policy is one of reasons. In culture science fields, it appears more obvious. With the management of authority especially when the authority exists misleading trend, culture will be limited greatly, let alone reach a diversification degree. In a word, only dare to question authority, our society will become more democratic and efficient.

On the other hand, questioning authority contributes discriminating right from wrong, corrects the flawed issues and in turn bring a comprehensive and clear understanding to the complex world. For example, without the courage of Copernicus to question authority who regarded the earth is the centre of the cosmic at that time, people could not learn that as the center of world, it is not the earth but the sun. Similarly, without the Einstein's suspicion to the authority, people in modern society will not acquire the great Relativity Theory; without the Edison's question to the authority, people now cannot enjoy his hundreds of great discoveries. Consequently, only through the questioning spirit, people not only distinguish truth and mistake but also learn the world much clearer and precisely than before.

Yet, it is not denied that the authority does exist problems when it is questioned by all of us in the society. Take the infectious diseases for example, if the disease have spread to all of the country, while the administrate department claims that the disease will not spread and the society is safety just in order to maintain the stability. In this sense, it is obvious that the authority will be questioned and proved to be wrong at last. Another illustrating example involves the Nixon's scandal, by media' fusing and people's question, the president have to give in and this is called the famous Water Gate event. Therefore more doubtful the authority is, more possible the authority exists problems.

In closing, questioning the authority not only embodies the improvement of a society but also helps people discriminate right and wrong. When most people in the society doubt the authority, it must be existing problems for the authority and without fail it is high time for the authority to alter or modify its course immediately.
