How to enhance the well-being of a society may become the most significant and controvert question facing human beings. Someone claim that only be the way of questioning authority can we improve our science and social development so as to ultimately stimulate the well-being of the society. While others insist that too much challenge to the authority may cause confusion and then can even destroy the harmony of the society. In my opinion, challenge authority is a necessary way to develop our society. What is more, we should be cautious about our society's stability.

Myriads of inventions and innovations in natural science are contributed by questioning authorities. When mentioning this topic, numbers of examples come into mine mind. Two of the most familiar illustrations to us is Galileo's experiment of two different weighted objects falling into the ground from the same height at the same time, which is totally the opposite of the theory of Aristotle, whose view is appreciated by people for thousand of years. His new finding correct the way of physics' research, opening the new road to the modern physics. Another example also happened in physics. That is the relative theory, brought by Einstein as every one know, showing a completely instinctive picture of objects' movement. His innovation releases physician from the limit of Newton's classic physics, which generated a new subject -quantum physics. Without their surpass discoveries, our human beings cannot achieve so fast development in science and technology, let alone improve well-being of the society.

Sometimes only by questioning authority or even fighting against authority can bring human beings their equal rights and social position then ultimately reach the goal of enhance human welfare. Reminded of the British revolution against feudalistic imperial governing, which sweep away the obstacle in the way of capitalism, innovate the method of produce force and change the produce relationship, create a social institution that generate the richest social material fortune in human’s history. Concept of egality infiltrates into human’s mind, citizens lead a happier and comfortable life that can never been imagined by their ancestors. From this aspect, no one can deny the significant function of questioning authority.

No only does challenge authority benefit the human beings in the social lever, but so it helps individual be more cognitive and become a full man. A famous philosopher once said (and I paragraph): totally believing books serves no better than no books. With the development of science and accumulation of knowledge, people view same things with different eyes. Even some theory accepted as truth before may have some flaws. Critical thinking facilitates people’s deeper understanding of some concept and theory, making people more positive in study and getting the whole sight of knowledge, accelerating people success in the future.

The benefit of challenging authority seems conspicuous, however, we cannot go too far away. Every coin has two sides, too much emphasizing on it may do more harm to good. Some basic and well accepted concept should be bolstered in the beginning, otherwise people may make confusion or even the society may fall into state of chaos. So we must be cautious of it, correct utilizing it to the right direction.

In conclusion, the statement that questioning authority is a useful tool to boost the society is reasonable to some extent. For it useful function on the welfare of society and perfect individual’s personality, we should make full use of it in a correct way.
