Argument145
A new study collected data that shows that people who snore are more likely to gain weight than are people who do not snore. It is well known that many people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds, a condition called sleep apnea. The interruption of breathing wakes the person—often so briefly that the waking goes unnoticed—and can leave the person too tired during the day to exercise. Anyone who snores, therefore, should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise more.

Outlines in English:
Introduction Paragraph: Reclaim the basic assumption, evidence, conclusion, recommendation and reasoning line of the statement above. Point out that the statement has logic fallacies as below:
1)        The statement uses the assumption that many people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night as an evidence to support the conclusion. However, key information about that survey on snore person has not been provided.
2)        Sleep apnea, which is caused by breath interruption, may not be the only reason for a people’s sleeping problems, a lot of people with nervous system illness.
3)        If the sleep apnea is goes so unnoticed that most people cannot even feel it, how can it be so serious to get people exhausted for the next day’s activities? There may be some other reason of it, for example disturbing by other people who sleep in the same room.
4)        Even given the assumption that snoring people will get very tired in the morning, the recommendation of taking more exercise even eat less to avoid putting on weight is not suitable in the consideration of a human being’s health.
Conclusion Paragraph: Reemphasize the logical fallacy of the statement and give a little advice for improvement.

Text Begins:
The statement above recommends people who snore to take on diet and more exercise in order to control their weight. The recommendation is given based on the conclusion of a study that people who snore gain weight more easily than ordinary ones. The study provides a fact that many people who snore also have the problem of sleep apnea, which as the statement says, can make a person too tired for the next day’s activities. And lack of day-time exercise will cause the snoring people weight problems. However, with serious inspect into the issue, the recommendation cannot be taken in realistic because it has several logical fallacies as below:

Firstly, the breathing interruption is said by the statement to be the cause of energy consuming in the night. However, no static figure is provided as the evidence to support the relationship between snoring and breathing interruption. The statement use the word many to describe the amount of snoring people with occasionally stop-breathing problem. But what does the word many mean in static way? Regarding to the huge population of snoring people, even 1% of them can also be described as many. However, if the percentage is too low, no causal relationship between snoring and breathing interruption can be introduced analytically.

Further more, even given the assumption that almost every people who snore have breathing interruption in the night, the reasoning line is still problematic because the statement provides no evidence to eliminate other reason of the breath interruption, as it claimed that snoring caused the sleeping problem. As the medication studies show, snoring inhabit is usually cause by nerve system illness, which may also cause the problem of occasionally stop-breathing problem at the same time. So, if a person has breathing interruption in the night, doctors may have to pay more attention to his nerve system, and focus only on whether the patient snores in the night will mislead the attention of health care into a wrong direction.

The statement is also doubtful in the analysis that occasional breathing interruption, which a so unnoticeable, that most people cannot even feel it, can make the person so exhausted in the next day that he/she cannot even take on enough exercise. In fact, there must be some other reason for the sleeping problem of snoring people. When a person snores at the sleeping time, the people who sleep in the same room, who may be the person’s wife or husband, may be too tired of his sound and wake the person for a little while to avoid the large snoring noise. And if a people is waken up too open in a single night, he/she will certainly be lack of energy in the coming morning. But, the individuals studied by that program may not tell the researchers all about their night sleeping because it has some personal affairs involved. So, other reasons for a person getting exhausted in the morning should also be studied in order to give a convincing reasoning line.

Lastly, and most importantly, even as the statement claims, snoring people have weight problems because they are lack of energy for activities in day time, recommending all those people to take on more exercise even to eat less food may even more serious health problems. As every one knows as a common sense, people need food to get energy for activities and other physical processes. If a person is already in a state lacking of energy, what will happen to his/her health if he even takes more exercise and eat less food? The opinion in the statement will cause serious long-term health problems, although it may have a little effect on weight controlling in a short time.

In conclusion, the statement has logic fallacies in every particle of its reasoning line, so neither the conclusion nor its further recommendation can be taken seriously in real health care. In order to make that analysis more convincible, the author of the statement should provide more statistic data of snoring people’s sleeping problem, and most importantly, the researchers should pay more attention to give a more considerate advice in the aspect of long-term health.
