As a student growing up in the largest developing country in the world- China, I have been experiencing the influence that modern technological development exerts on our society. Though I should admit that people's desire to live a better life should be always approved and modern technological development does bring certain new problems, still I would like to point out that modern technology has greatly promoted the development of our society and improved people's quality of living .And given the choice, maybe few people would prefer to live in any time of the past.

Admittedly, modern technological development brings about certain new problems when solving others. While modern technological development has greatly improved the material productivity of our society, it does bring us such problems. The nuclear and biological weapons owned by different countries may kill the population of the world for several times. And other serious consequences of modern technological development also caused includes tough problems such as global pollution, ecological crises, a widen gap between developed and developing countries and inequality of distribution of international obligations and resources. Modern technology also exerts some negative impact in people's lives. Byproducts of the improved efficiency of material productivity such as Information overload and high pace of living resulted in a variety of psychological illness in normal people's life.

However, the overall living conditions of normal people are greatly improved rather than damaged by the development of modern technology. Modern technology improves every part of people's living. The improvement of production efficiency allows people more leisure time and modern inventions such as cars and televisions greatly enrich people's choices in their own time. Modern health and financial security system has prolonged normal people's life expectancy greatly in the past century. And even some inventions that were believed to bring disasters to human race, has to some extent the well-being of our society. For example, nuclear bombs, that ever caused the most terrible human disasters in Japan, serve more and more like "peace makers" and to some extent prevent the resurgence of worldwide wars between large countries like the two human experienced in the last century. Satisfaction of people's need for material and securities also promote people pursuit for psychological well-being. With more leisure time and convenient traffic, people spend more time with their families and friends than before and are allowed more freedom of their personal interest.  Simply put, modern technology has brought human race a boom of material production and to some extent helps to meet the human need for health and security. People's psychological pursuit is also benefited to some extent from the material progress of human society.

In addition, it is always the way people employ such technological development that decides whether such development would improve or damage the living conditions of people's lives. For example, television can serve as an efficient tool for people to get entertainment and information that is good for their lives. However, if people fail to arrange their time properly, television can also serve as an attention distractor from the members of the family.

In conclusion, I would like to argue that whether modern technological development, like a double-edged sword, is able to exert positive impact on living qualities of human society depends on how our people employ it. And if properly handled, modern technological development can provide important impetus for the development of both of our society and human living conditions.
