2、        衣着等不能反映，因为不同政治观点的人可以穿相同的衣服，而有着共同政治目标的人也可以穿不同的衣服。同样，饮食和说话方式也只是个人生活方式的反映。
3、        短期很难了解一个人的政治倾向，应该通过深入的交谈或是长期的观察
The speaker asserts that people’s political beliefs can be identified within a very short time because everything about them, such as their clothes, friends, diet, the way they talk, is a reflection of their politics. While one’s political belief does influence some of her or his behaviors, the speaker unnecessarily extended it to such a broad assertion to embrace “everything” about a person. My point of contention with the speaker lies in the way to recognize one’s politics.
I agree with the speaker insofar as it is an indication of people’s belief which friends they make. After all, friends always have similar interests and values. When it comes to politics, the common ideas and ambitions friends share generally reveal their beliefs. A well-known example is Friedrich Engels, who maintained a lifelong friendship with Karl Marx. They composed together the “Manifesto of the Communist Party” and “Capitalism”（资本论？？）Their works and ideas touched off European socialist revolution in the 30s and 40s in the twentieth century. By observing what Engels has done with his friend we can conclude that Engels’ political ideal was to establish communism worldwide. Thus, we can identify a person’s ideas and values from what type of friends he or she is associated with.
Aside from friends, however, people’s clothes, food and talks have the least relationship with their political inclinations. The style of one’s cloches depends primarily on factors such as her or his background, taste, financial condition and what kind of situation he or she is in. The US President George W. Bush and Former President Bill Clinton, for instance, would both surely wear suits when they give a speech at the Whitehouse, although they are Republican and Democrat, respectively. On the other hand, people in a political demonstration might be dressed differently, yet they have the same political goals. Similarly, what people eat and how people talk indicate merely the way of life they advocate, and have little to do with politics.
In fact, people’s political beliefs can not be identified in a short time. Political belief, which is a mental acceptance of or conviction in some type of social formations and belongs to one of the innermost ideas of a person, can not be easily revealed. A deep discussion with a person on some political issues can help us understand her or his standpoints. Additionally, paying attention to people’s deeds also assists us in knowing for sure what they actually believe in. A participant, as a demonstration, who helped, over an extensive period of time, a lot of slaves escape from the Southern US in the 1850s, would be likely regarded as an abolitionist.
To sum up, all of the clothes, diet, and a superficial talk or short-term deed might not be an expression of one’s preference in politics. To be acquainted with a person’s politics, we must examine her or his long-term activities such as the friends and contributions to the society.
