The following appeared in a letter sent by a committee of homeowners from the Deerhaven Acres to all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres.

"Seven years ago, homeowners in nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted. Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting."

My composition
In this argument, the arguer concludes that property values in (Deerhaven Acres)DA will increase apparently if they adopt their own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting by comparison with Brookville whose property values, seven years ago, have tripled after adopting a set of restrictions on its homeowners’ yards construction. Although it seems logical, the author fail to account for the alternative explanations for the tripled property values in Brookville and overlook the difference between Brookville and DA.

First of all, the tripled property values in Brookville my caused by other possible reasons rather than the adoption of a set of restrictions. During the seven years, the economy in Brookville likely has experienced an unprecedented development and prosperity, therefore people in Brookville require more and more yards and houses and can also afford more expensive property price. Moreover, it is also possible that Brookville officials  has devoted a great deal of effort on promoting the tourism, resulting in an increasing number of visitors giving visit to Brookville, hence the Brookville’s property values tripled. Failing to take into account to these alternative causes, the author cannot cogently substantiate that the set of restrictions on the yards’ landscaping and house painting is the only reason to the tripled property values in Brookville.

Secondly, the argument is based on a false analogy. The people who want to buy house or hire rooms in DA may prefer the personal landscaping and house painting rather than the uniform yards style and house painting. In addition, the low property values in DA may the consequence of air pollution, fouled water and other environment problems, or economy in Brookville have been depressed and gloomy during that period. If so, the homeowners should focus their efforts on how to keep their living circumstance cleaner and fitter for living, and urge their authorities to promote the gloomy economy to raise the property values.

Last but not the least; the conclusion is assumed without justification that the background conditions remain the same at different times. It is seven years ago that the property values in Brookville tripled after taking a set of restriction, but now people may pay more attentions on the entertainment facilities and cleaner environment rather than beautiful landscaping and house painting. Similarly, the economy policies may play a significant role on enterprise’s investment choice but not the landscaping and colors of exteriors of homes. Overlooking these differences between the past and present times, the arguer can not simply infer that, after adopting a certain set of restrictions, the property values in DA will be raised.

To make the conclusion more convincing, the arguer should provide the evidence that there are no different conditions between seven years ago and nowadays, and the preference of people between DA and Brookville is the same with each other. Furthermore, the author also should substantiate that there are no other reasons giving rise to augment of property values in Brookville.
