狂超时,大跑体,猛吐血。
把issue题目中的comformity(墨守成规)理解为一致性,集体主义为大谬所在。
Issue 141
"Most people recognize the benefits of individuality, but the fact is that personal economic success requires conformity."

At times coincide and times conflict, the relation between individual benefit and conform interest has long been debated over by intellectuals both in western and eastern society. Some people claim that with selfishness deep in human nature, giving prominence to individuality does no harms but effectively encourages people to make progress in their lives. Others oppose this view with the assertion that, when people have higher aims other than fundamental individual benefit requests, especially in economic perspective, individuality and conformity seldom contradicts with each other seriously-both of them are indispensable for success. Either side has its ground. A balance of individuality and conformity is crucial for personal economic achievements.
As we know, ignoring people's request for individual benefits may disastrously damage economic development of societies or social groups, which would ultimately eliminate the possibility of personal economic success. This plight once puzzled some socialist countries especially. In the People’s Republic of China, for example, whether conformity is superior to individuality has been argued for decades since the communist party came into power in 1949. Until early years of the country’s economic reform in 1980s, Chinese people's benefits of individuality suffered from extreme refraining as a result of temporary prevailing idea that conformity preponderates over anything else, which meant even precious individual life was inferior to a collective farm’s logs (symbols of the society’s common benefit). The terrible consequence of such ideology was that as the overwhelming majority of Chinese people got tied of working completely for conformity, a nation with one billion populations was driven to pure poverty and the whole country’s economic system was on the cutting edge of deteriorating and collapsing.
Simply put, without the benefits of individuality, people would lose their motivation for personal development and progress, which is a precondition of economic success.
On the other hand, over recognition of individual benefit means narrow focus in which one may neglect the significance of cooperation and coordination with other people. As a member of contemporary society with intense business competitions and complicated working environment, no one can hope to achieve real economic success without other people’s involving or helping. Since cooperation and team-work inevitably results in some extend of conformity, individuality has to be sacrificed sometimes for ultimate interest. In this circumstance, people compromise their personal benefit for getting strengthened in competitions, enhance efficiency or creating more harmonized relations with others.
Even a genius as Bill Gates is, he could never establish Microsoft the world software empire all by himself. When he and his tens of thousands Microsoft employees are working together, the benefit of Company becomes the conformity that every one has to comply with. The logic is, in most cases, individuals abandon part of their benefit to support the company and then in turn the company may bring individuals back more interest and chances.
Without conformity, people become isolated in the economic society, which would only hold them in a narrow and selfish place lacking of long-termed prospect. Without sufficient recognition of individual benefits, people quit their motivation of progress at all. Thus, individuality and conformity is equally important to achieve any economic success. |
