TOPIC: ISSUE10 - "Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive, because it is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated."
WORDS: 513          TIME: 上午 01:58:23          DATE: 2006-6-4

513 words.
Outlines:
Position: 反对cities,支持农村地区。
正文两段:
1。在当今,城市在保持文化传统上的作用有限,甚至起相反作用;
2。农村自古以来就是文化传统的发源地与发扬地,现在也同样发挥着巨大的作用,理应得到国家更多的支持。

Influenced by growing globalization and subsequently introduced values of different kinds from foreign countries, the cities can no longer be regarded as places where a nation's cultural traditions could be primarily preserved and generated.  On the contrary, I believed that it is the countryside that really has an advantage in maintaining traditions.  As a result, I suggest that the government should pay more attention to the rural areas and provide corresponding financial support to help them pass through the difficulties and do their job well.

Nowadays, the cities cannot play the most important role in preserving national traditions any more. It is true that, in some aspects, cities may have more power, such as the ability to distribute the tradition all around fast enough, but all of these things put together may be only a fraction of the number of what they do to weaken their traditions.  For instance, in my city, in order to develop economics the government has destroyed so many ancient architectures during a few decades that we even cannot find an entirely intact old building of that kind now.  Furthermore, when I was a little boy my family, which had more members, lived in a small village. During those days, we would cook and eat many special foods at every traditional festival, however after my parents and me left to a big city, where I still live now, we have had rare chances to these things from then on just for the reason that we now already lived in a modern city and consequently should not have that old things any more.  As urban people lived a more and more fast and civilized life, it would be really difficult for them to follow their former traditions.

Compared with cities, the villages and other places in the countryside would be more likely to thrive in their national traditions, especially if they could have strong economic buttress from the government.  Everyone knows that most of our cultural traditions, which have been handed down from one generation to another by our ancestors, were generated a long time ago when there were even no real cities at all.  So it is clear that how important the role which was played by the countryside during those years.  Even now, the rural areas still contribute to this kind of thing, which could be indicated by the hot tides in a lot of our major cities to make a trip of traditional holiday life in villages.  However, villages also have some problems to get along with their duties. For example, there are ancient architectures collapsing almost every day just because of the deficiency of funds to protect and reserve them well, and these things would surly decrease if the government could offer more financial support.

To sum up, it is the countryside, other than the cities, that is mainly responsible for the reservation of cultural traditions and so on. For this reason, the government should make sure that the rural areas instead of the major cities receive financial support they need to thrive.

语法就不纠错了,文章简单明了。就是thing用的多了点,看来写的时候没有参考什么资料吧。
Influenced by growing globalization and subsequently introduced values of different kinds from foreign countries, the cities can no longer be regarded as places where a nation's cultural traditions could be primarily preserved and generated.  On the contrary, I believed that it is the countryside that really has an advantage in maintaining traditions.  As a result, I suggest that the government should pay more attention to the rural areas and provide corresponding financial support to help them pass through the difficulties and do their job well.

(举自己小时候的例子虽然有一定说服力但是最好还是展开啊,特别是对文化的破坏感觉力度不够)

To sum up, it is the countryside, other than the cities, that is mainly responsible for the reservation of cultural traditions and so on. For this reason, the government should make sure that the rural areas instead of the major cities receive financial support they need to thrive.
