Since the first human tribes begin to exist on earth, since humans learn to express their own ideas and communicate with each other, human society and culture are born. After thousands of years, we have made a society with prosperity and prospect, meanwhile, human culture have get to a peak which it had never reached. It seems more and more difficult to fully understand the contemporary society for us as culture has become more vague and broad.

How can we best analyze the culture? In order to answer this question, we should first understand what does culture mean and what does culture consist of. It is quite difficult to accurately define the meaning of culture, but it is clear that culture is produced in society, and reflects people's ideas and interests. Although culture is abstract, people living in the culture can be recognized and their behaviors are best materials to be studied. Only by doing so can a culture be better examined and understood.

But when some scientists begin their work and study on human behaviors in the contemporary culture, however, they have encountered with some problems. They become to realize that it is not that simple to just analyze different people randomly, as their studies goes on, they have seen chasms between respective generations. The youth think and act quite differently from their parents and grandparents, and even their parents disagree with their grandparents on many aspects. One way out of that trouble, and in my opinion the best solution, is to divide these people into three groups: the youth, the adults and the old. And our efforts should be put chiefly on the adults.

People are now arguing that children and the youth are crucial in determining the social development and its culture. While I do admit that the youth are the future of the society, but they are not strong and mature enough to influence the contemporary society. The reason why great attention are paid to them only lies in the way that their thoughts and some actions seems distinct and some of which are hard to be received by their parents. We all know that the foundation of economy determines how the society goes around, and it is undoubted that our government can in some aspects guide cultural and social development. And we know clearly that both in the work place and the government, the adults are the elites. What the adults think and act do actually affect the trends of the society and the culture.

Just imagine if you are in a society in which adults do not shake hands with the opposite sex, but meanwhile the youth think just the opposite, it is clear that these trends of the youth can produce a harsh debate in the society, but in fact, when a college student goes to work, although he thought it is common to shake hands with a female in workplace, he may not do that because all the other workmates, briefly adults, only shake hands with the same sex. To be better accepted in his office, he has to follow certain customs of the adults. This is a perfect example to show that although fresh and distinct, the trends of the youth do not change the culture in which the adults are the main forces.

But we have to concede that analyze the trends of the youth do throw light on what the contemporary culture is going to become, and it is one way to understand the culture today. As we know, the best way to fully enjoy the site of a river is to first see where it rises, where it is going to flow to. And by studying the youth of the contemporary culture, we know what our culture is going to and study the youth of the culture in the past can best reflect the contemporary culture's roots.

All in all, the most effective way to analyze the contemporary culture is the first examine what the trends of the youth in the past 20 years are and what the adults of contemporary culture think and behave. Other methods might also be helpful, such as study the youth in the contemporary society, since culture is to complex that not a single person can fully understand it.
