"Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."

In a society, any outstanding leader or popular stars undoubtedly have the ability to direct our attention to some specific problems which were unknown or unnoticed before. But obviously that a scandal in any aspects whether in politics, academics,or media which could be more effectively to arouse everyone’s attention to unprecedented degree to motivate people to take notice of unknown or little discussed problems.

First of all, scandals can mesmerize and titillate a society that makes it an ideal motivation for focus public attention on political and social problems. For instance, the “zippergate”scandal.Early in that scandal it would attempting to dismiss it as involving the former president Bill Clinton’s underhanded affirs. However since the scandal were reported by the media, the American people were called attention to focus on attention to this scandal which result of overshadow the entire eight years of Clinton’s admistration. And the former president was almost impeached by the Congress. Obviously, no public leader could call the nation’s attention to the problems of political leader misduct.

In addition, a further example of the impact of scandal in the academic field can found in recent events which called people’s attention to the problems of plagiarism.Although allegation of plagiarism had arisen in th past, there have been no scandals created because those accused were not well known. Some professors pilfer the work of other scholars, some employ teams of graduate students and publish large numbers of articles with their names on the students' work. However a scandal over world famous scientist Hwang Woo who claimed that he created the first cloned human embryo and extracted stem cells from them which was proved to be his plagiarizing act.The outcome of this scandal strongly aroused our attention to this phenomena of plagiarism.

Furthermore, almost everyday we pay attention to the most revealing photographs and latest information by the media coverage. As a matter of fact,we neglect the fact that the side-effect which brought by the media scrutiny. The scandal that the media scrutiny killed Pricncess Diana as her car step away from the privacy-invading cameras of reporters in Paris clearly illustrated this.

Admittedly, the scandal sometimes distracted our attention from the pressing social problems and global problems, such as health-care reform, our social-security reform, and energy crisis and so on.We should fully focus on the more pressing problems which need to solve urgently rather than focusing on the scandal.
In sum,I agree that a scandal can arouse people’s attention to focus on a particular problems and truly make us take notice contemplate a specific issue in ways that do speaker or reformer ever could.

用时N小时,思路就是丑闻可以唤起我们大家对政治 学术 新闻等领域的注意
