Has the technology brought more negative effects overall and would potentially
do harm to our lives? The speaker claims so. Yet I strongly disagree with his
contention. The technology serves as a powerful and benificial, though
dangerous, tool and could be well used by human.

Technology, the main device people use to change to universe, has made great
contribution to improve the quality of our life. Without the improvement of
technology, it is impossible to meet the basic physical needs of people, let
alone the psychological needs. For supporting example one need to look no
further than the usage of fire. Fire, one of the earliest and most significant
technology, warm human's body, drive the coldness away and enable human to
acquire cooked food. We can image that, without the usage of fire, people would
spend most of their short lives by staying in dark and humid caves, let alone
pursuing any of arts, humanities, etc.

Yet the enormous sums of facts will not permit us to deny the problems
introduced by the development of technology. Some of these problem are critical
and are threatening our lives. But instead of attribute these negative effects
to technology, we must realize that these phenomena are just reflections of
human's evil and umlimited desire. For instance, the proliferation of nuclear
weapon has threatened the future of our socities. But can we say the wickedness
just rests in the nuclear weapon itself? Of course not. Rather, what really
threantens our lives is the desire to conquer other nations or races by using
nuclear weapons. Anyway, the only one that would threaten or damage our lives
are ourselves, and probably, by the power technology.

Finally, I believe that with restriction and guidance of ethics and law, the
side-effect of technology can be minimized. It is clear that technology is just
a making of human beings. And over thousands of years, human beings have never
be solely manipulated by their makings. Instead, people have various of measures
and manners to prevent the potential crisis. By international pacts we can
control the proliferation of nuclear weapon, though incompletely; by legislation
we can control the application of Clone Tech and reduce the enviromental
pollution; by the supervision of social opinion we can prevent the abuse of
electric surveillance system. In short, human beings have the ability to ensure
the quality of lives, even under the threaten of problems introduced by
technology.

To sum up, technology has greatly advanced the quality of human lives. Though
serious problems emerges with the help of technology, I believe with the power
of ethics and legislation, the side-effect of technology on the quality of life
would be finally minimized.
