50"In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

1.        承认适度的学术外活动能够有促进作用-自然科学
2.        社会科学
3.        但是,需要适度,不一定不是都合适
4.        而且,不一定能搞达到“improve the quality of instruction”的目的

The speaker asserts that to improve the quality of instruction at college and university level, some time should be set aside for all the faculties to spend working outside the academic world relevant to the courses they teach. I fundamentally agree with the speaker to some extent, since some certain fields of academic require practical experience, especially in some natural sciences. But when it comes to some fields, as I will discuss later, it is never the case at all.

Admittedly, time spent outside academic world will indeed improve instruction; and this is true in most areas of natural science. For concrete example, it’s essential for a professor majored in ornithology goes out of the campus and do some observation work, which could be Bird Protection Volunteers, or excursion with the purpose of following the routine of a specific kind of birds, migrant--wide goose, for instance. Practical experience can bring the academic world with inspiration and impulse, which the bookish materials can not provide. Merely digging into the academic ivory tower, regardless of the basic of the true knowledge—practice, a so-called professor can never base any well-grounded thought, let alone academic achievement.

Moreover, the outside academic professions are not confined in practical work. By regularly joining in some meeting, for example, held by people outside the academic world, a professor can absorb various ideas, which may help him pave the way for future research, or sparkle his mind. For instance, if a history professor attends an informal discussion held by some history devotees, he will not only collect various thought which will provide his future study effective reference but also know what common people need to know. And in return, he can help these people better understand history. In this process, his skill of instruction is also improved.

However, as it is said that one man's medicine maybe another's poison, the "outside work" may not be feasible among all faculty. The "outside work" might be confined in some limited scope which may be of little benefit or even unavailable for professors in certain aspects to take any outside work. Moreover, considered that it might be imbalance between the time and money spent in the outside work and the improvement in some field of academic research, we should not adopt outside work amid all faculty.

Besides, the outside work may not necessarily lead to improvement in academic research. What if the relevant part of the work is only a well-acquainted part in a teacher’s or professor’s study or just an obsolete “relevant” knowledge--for example a teacher majored in high-tech electronics attend some activities related with vacuum tube held by some fans. Vacuum tube is a kind of electronic component but it was long abandoned in modern electronics field, therefore it might be useless for the quality of instruction.

In the final analysis, the positive effect of work outside academic world is tremendous, but we must not ignore its applicable scope and possible uselessness to some extent. Only through carefully examine before applying an outside-job, and decide whether it's appropriate to execute, can we achieve our solitary goal--the improvement of the instruction.

Admittedly, time spent outside academic world will indeed improve instruction; and this is true in most areas of natural science(这句话讲得有点多余). For concrete example(example会不会显的更好点), it’s essential for a professor majored in ornithology goes out of the campus and do some observation work(work可以省去了), which could be Bird Protection Volunteers, or excursion with the purpose of following the routine of a specific kind of birds, migrant--wide goose, for instance. Practical experience can bring the academic world with inspiration and impulse, which the bookish materials can not provide. Merely digging into the academic ivory tower, regardless of the basic of the true knowledge—practice, a so-called professor can never base any well-grounded thought, let alone academic achievement这句要表达什么意思?.

Moreover, the outside academic professions are not confined in practical work. By regularly joining in some meeting, for example, held by people outside the academic world, a professor can absorb various ideas, which may help him pave the way for future research, or sparkle his mind. For instance, if a history professor attends an informal discussion held by some history devotees, he will not only collect various thought which will provide his future study effective reference but also know what common people need to know这里两个例子直接连在一起,感觉不太好.

Vacuum tube is a kind of electronic component but it was long abandoned in modern electronics field, therefore it might be useless for the quality of instruction.

In the final analysis, the positive effect of work outside academic world is tremendous, but we must not(should not is better) ignore its applicable scope and possible uselessness to some extent. Only through carefully examine before applying an outside-job, and decide whether it's appropriate to execute, can we achieve our solitary goal--the improvement of the instruction.

整体的逻辑表达的不错,只是有很多句子的使用出了问题
开头段写得很好

The speaker asserts that to improve the quality of instruction at college and university level, some time should be set aside for all the faculties to spend working outside the academic world relevant to the courses they teach. I fundamentally agree with the speaker to some extent, since some certain fields of academic require practical experience, especially in some natural sciences. But when it comes to some fields, as I will discuss later, it is never the case at all.

Admittedly, time spent outside academic world will indeed improve instruction. For example, it’s essential for a professor majored in ornithology goes out of the campus and does some observation, which could be Bird Protection Volunteers, or excursion with the purpose of following the routine of a specific kind of migrant birds--wide goose, for instance. Practical experience can bring the academic world inspiration and impulse, which the bookish materials can not provide. Merely digging into the academic ivory tower, regardless of the basic of the true knowledge—practice, a so-called professor can never base any well-grounded thought, let alone achieving academic height. Therefore, some outside work is necessary, even desirable in the academic world.

Moreover, the outside academic professions are not confined in practical work. By regularly joining in some meeting held by some people outside the academic world, a professor can absorb various ideas, which may help pave his way for future research, or spark his mind. For instance, if a history professor attends an informal discussion held by some history devotees, he will not only collect various thought which will provide his future study effective reference but also know what common people need to know. And in return, he can help these people better understand history. In this process, his skill of instruction is also improved. From this point of view, the function of outside work also includes extending academic ideas.

What if the relevant part of the work is only a well-acquainted part in a teacher’s or professor’s study or just an obsolete “relevant” knowledge? For example, it do make some sense for a teacher majored in high-tech electronics to attend some activities related with vacuum tube, and they are held by some fans. Although Vacuum tube is a kind of electronic component, yet it has long been abandoned in modern electronics field, therefore it might be useless for the quality of instruction.

In the final analysis, the positive effect of work outside academic world is tremendous, but we should not ignore its applicable scope and possible uselessness to some extent. Only through carefully examine before applying an outside-job, and decide whether it's appropriate to execute, can we achieve our solitary goal--the improvement of the instruction.
