TOPIC: ISSUE 83 - "Government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state, even though these areas are often extremely remote and thus accessible to only a few people."

position:同意,要保护
1。环境是整体,互相影响
2。有的荒地偏远,但是有价值可以未来开发,如果不事先保护就不行了
3。要讲究保护方法,人为干涉有时反而不好
Nowadays, there is a hot debate on whether it is necessary for government to preserve publicly owned wildness areas in their natural state, where are often remote and have a small population. Many people hold the idea that these areas are useless to the development of the nation and thus deserve no preservation, which may cost the government a large amount of money. Also there are people who disagree. As to this, I strongly support the speaker's idea that these areas should be preserved by the government, for the long-term development of the country and the overall environment.
In the first place, natural environmental system should be considered as a whole, since even the environment of a small area can sometimes significantly influence the country's,or even the global, environment.A good example occurs to me is the water polution of Yangzi River--the longest river in China.Yangzi River runs across a large area of South China, along the river there are many wildness areas, where are accessible to only a few people.Consequently, some mercenary people take the advantage of weak administration in this areas, and established numerous chemical factories along the river--most of them had no polution-proposal equipment. As a result, the water quality of Yangzi River seriously declined, and what's more, the major cities along the river, like Shanghai--suffered from the poor quality of water, and these situation lasted nearly 4 months before the central government take measures to tackle it.So we can see that even these areas are remote and less accessible,it is crucial for the government to preserve them, otherwise other areas may suffer from the consequences.
In the second place, some remote wildness areas that seems useless today may prove valuable in the future,so it behoove the government to take measures to preserve them before it is too late.Take the highest location of the world--Tibet for example.Tibet is well-known as the "Roof the World",for its average altitude is highest, and thus few people live there, thus most of its land has not been developed,or even accessed,by human-beings.Geographic experts discovered that this remote plateau, however, has a rich storage in raw resources, like oil and gas.Futhermore,Tibet is famous for its mysterious religion, and there are many old temples there--a precious resource for tourism.Regrettably, the transportation in Tibet is considered as a nightmare--there is few road on the moutainous area,if any.Nevertheless, the local government still take efficacious measures to protect this land from being poluted or over-exploited.The government did the right thing--this year,a new Raiway called Qinghai-Tibet Raiway is completed, connecting Tibet with the outside world.Just two months after this, the tourism in Tibet skyrocketed, and the government gained considerable benefits from tourism. Also the natural resource can now be used.suppose the local didn't protect the environment, perhaps all these cannot realize.
Finally, what kind of measure do we take to protect the environment is worth consideration.sometimes our intention is good but the result is not.For instance,Mongolia government sensed that there are too many wolves in their grassland, eating herbivorous animals like sheep and horses. So the government launched a project called "full attack against wolves",killing more than 70% of wolves on the mongolia grassland. The consequence came as a disaster--their grassland was seriously ruined by too many herbivorous animals, and hence their productivity declined. From this case we know that our intervention is not always favorable to the environment,so we should investigate carefully before we act.
To sum up,though some areas are too remote for human beings to access,it is crucial for the government to take proper measure to preserve these lands before it is too late. The influence of these areas is unpredictable, and one day it may benefit us,if we did the right thing to protect it;or become a disaster,if we did not.
