In today's world, there are numerous artists creating fabulous masterworks,and also there are many critics judging the value and merits of this arts.Some people,including the speaker,assert that it is the artists who give society something of lasting value,rather than the critics.While I agree that the hard work of those genius artists really bring us many meanful things,I would point out that the critics are also indispensible for us to thoroughly understand arts and recognize the real value of them.Both of them are essential.

On the one hand,it is the hard effort of artists that give us multifarious forms of arts,enabling us to understand the meaning of life deeply and to enjoy ourselves.Novolists collect manifold stories from everywhere and write interresting stories after compiling them and adding some imagination into them.Composers observe the society and the psycological status of people,then express their feeling and understanding by composing melodious musics,interpreting their opinions to these phenomenon.Similiarly,film makers use movie to reflect the Zeitgeist of the mordern society and educate us by presenting fanscinating stories on the movie.Without these artists,we cannot see those masterpieces let alone acquiring any value.

On the other hand,without the critics,we might never thoroughly understand the true vlue of those masterpieces.As we know,artists create their works from real life,however,these art works are often  higher than life,and are abstracted by the artists.consequently,due to the limits of the art knowledge and discertion of the common people,it is not likely that all the people can truely understand the real meaning of these art works.One need go no further than the famous painting "Mona Lisa"by Da Vinci,how many peolple can thoroughly interpret the mysterious smile of Mona Lisa without the explanation by the critics,who have more quality in appeciating art works?Thus we must see that critics help us to understand the underlying meaning of art,presenting the value of art.

Moreover,critics propel the development and evolution of arts by offering some conducive advices whereby promotes the level of artists,especially those young ones.Some young artists,as far as I know,until now don't have a mature genre of themselves,and occasionally don't understand the true meaning of arts.For example,some young artists compose musics which stimulate adolescents to drink more alcohol beverates or abet them to try drugs to indulge themselves.In this case,the critis can help those young artists to come back to the correct orbit,and educate them to create more positive works.

However,we must see that sometimes critics also bring us some problems,which,if not properly addressed,may cumber us from understanding the true meaning and the real value of arts.Since there are so many critics,each of them evaluates works of art by their own opinions and interpretation,it is diffecult for common people,who have little,if any,konwledge and understanding of art works,to differentiate which is right or wrong,and sometimes bemused by those critics.That is why in colleges,students are encouraged to read original work of novilists,and form their own opinions firstly,then move on to read some commentary by critics,in this way, they are less likely to be bewildered by so many commentaries and lost their own understanding.And hundreds of years ago,critics unfairly assumed that Van Gogh's work"Sunflower"was of little value,however,this work's value has skyrocheted through recent years,hence we shouldn't complete rely on the critics to explain and evaluate works of art.

To sum up,artists present great masterpieces for us to appeciate and enjoy,while critics not only help us common people who have little knowledge about art to understand the deep meaning of art,but also promote the level of young artists and subsequently propel the development of art.So we must realize that both of them are vital to art.
