ISSUE147 - "Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them."

1.有很多传统的东西是保留到今天的。
2.现代的很多元素从传统变化而来。尤其是艺术领域
3.传统有一些东西是不能接受并加以保护的。

It is true that both tradition and modernization exist in various kinds of fields in our society. I disagree with the speaker insofar as one must choose between them for the reason that modern people can choose tradition as well as modernization freely.

A lager amount of traditional things are preserved for a very long time in respect that they are still useful in modern society. Ceremonies and festivals are two crucial examples in point. Thanksgiving Day is a significant festival for Americans and Canadians giving thanks to God for harvest and health marked by eating turkey since 1621. Besides, on Halloween, children dress costumes and bagging treats and playing tricks with their families and other people living in neighborhood. On another important festival, Christmas, especially on Christmas Eve, children usually tie a sock on their bed for Santa Claus giving gifts to them. And other examples such as bullfight in Spain and South America, traditional diets in China are all demonstrate that something of tradition has been enjoyed and spread. What mentioned above lead to the fact that traditional events are existing in our daily life and some of which are still playing an important roll. Thus, something still useful in tradition should be well developed and applied in people live.

It is granted that modernization are quite different with tradition so that a certain number of individuals especially youth can accept modernization only while they are likely to forget tradition. However, the modernization has brought a large amount of elements from traditional field. Pop Music as well as rock and rolls is so popular that even nearly no young people dislike it. However the primary rhythm of modern music is brought from classical music and fork music. Music in a lot of movie which expresses modernization mainly use the classical and fork type such as Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor which composed by Hans Zimmer. Likewise, in the field of automobile industry, modern types are based on the traditional views as well. Every types of Golf, one of the most famous cars produced by Volkswagen, are designed under the condition improving the tradition type. After all, new cars do contain some modern technologies. Therefore, modern society can choose advanced technologies within modernization as well as traditional elements and it is not necessary for an individual to choose between them.

Notwithstanding a lot of tradition provided above have been well preserved, improved, or continuous applied, not all parts of tradition should be chose in our modern live. Discriminate against women is not a good tradition. It is known to all that the prime minister of Germany as well as the Secretary of State of the United State, xxx and Lese, are two women whose abilities are not necessarily doubtful. A growing number of women have played more and more significant rolls in our society such as education, research, management and even military field. The reason that such unreasonable tradition is not applied by modern society is that the knowledge and experience of modern people have been stepped further far more than the past centuries under the condition of technological development.

From the situation nowadays, tradition and modernization will both exist in our society and last long. The authority and public should preserve the good tradition and develop it meanwhile get rid of bad ones.
