Tradition, defined as an aggregation of beliefs, values and concepts handed form one generation to another, contributes to the richness and colorfulness of our society. I concede that there is certain stubborn but harmful traditional value or concepts contradicting with the modern level of knowledge and ideas. However, it is unwarranted to separate tradition with modern life for the reasons discussed below.
Tradition, value and concepts having formed since long time ago, is not something could be easily precluded from our present world in that certain thoughts and concepts are eternal. Although a certain number of people claims that it is not fashionable now to carry on a task or make a decision conforming or obeying traditional ways, they somewhat doing things subconsciously having bearing on tradition. For instance, people still reunite at Christmas Eve, though they may argue that they enjoy the same holiday realizing novel and original ideas that totally differently form the past. Yet what they are doing a traditional thing: reunion and sharing love with families. Moreover, people still believe in "justness" and "rightness", though they may also contend that it is something of "truth" rather than tradition. Nevertheless, tradition does embrace what is considered to be truth and sense of union passed down from previous generations. These tradition thoughts accompany people from children to adults, from birth to death. A person devoid of a sense of tradition is incomplete, and reduced to be a machine in society eventually, for the sake of a sense of loss.
Moreover, it is also possible for tradition to combine with modernization; both of them are not mutually exclusive. With respect of scientific field, a variety of scientists still apply the classis Newton theory to analysis, and solving problems at present. They use this traditional physical ideas and endow it new meaning in the new century. In addition, when we turn to the sphere of cooking, it is easily to find, especially in China, cooks tend to blend innovating dishes with traditional cooking methods, and thus create new flavors. These dishes become prevalent among both the old and the young, while no one regards them as "not cool because they are traditional stuff". Consider, not dissimilarly important, the field of art. Even the modernest hip-hop music are mixed with traditional element in order to attract consumers and fans. This phenomenon, additionally, indicates tradition is even no substitute to modernization; tradition should be equally treasured as modernity.我觉得这段写的很有新意,从科学、艺术和食文化的角度说明问题。赞!
Admittedly, in tradition, there is something existed(我觉得改成there exist something ,这样跟后面的连接会更顺一些) regarded as trite and advanced that needs us to strike a balance in ruling out these disadvantages while, at the same time, preserve the useful and eternal part. For example, people needy in the poor countries in some parts of Asia and Africa believe unscientific way of medical attempts, such as small rituals held by witches, could cure disease or save their lives. In this case, this sort of concept is detrimental and even fatal. Only by imparting them with modern knowledge and thoughts can they prevent them from continuing suffering because of ignorance.你这个例子只说了传统的非科学医疗的害处,跟你开头第一句既要消除不好的一面并且保留好的方面补台吻合。
To sum up, as illustrated above, tradition and modernization are not truly incomparable like the speaker's assertion. What we mankind should do, is not to make an option between them but to embrace them. The former renders us live a life constantly meaningful, while the latter emancipates us from ignorance and enables us to advance.
总体说来,分析还是比较透彻的。 |
