How to exactly evaluate the greatness of individuals, the problem is a much debated one in that it affected everybody in their daily lives. People may prefer assessing by those who live after them to evaluating by their contemporaries, although some have no opinion about it. But if I am concerned, I will think that the title statement is over simple and in my view the greatness of individuals can be determined not only by those who live after them but by their contemporaries or by both of them according to different cases.

Firstly, there are numerous cases such as incidence or historical person can be justly estimated without any prejudices by those who live after them, especially this assessment is systematic based on evaluator’s lots of information acquired during that time after long-time hard working. At the same time, plenty of information, which is about personal lives of man who is evaluated or other circumstances such as how to make a fine assessment and how to evaluated a man or an incidence according to limited sources they can get, is being considered carefully though scientific systematic ways which can induce to a perfect answer. And sometime these evaluations can be used to correct some wrong ideas made before due to incomplete knowledge or political reasons. Now in there, several examples can give some light to this point. In china, when institutional revolution broke up and came into people lives, many scholars、professors、politicians and other kinds of elites are put into prison because they received various unreasonable treatments and judgments, and some even are accused of treason. In fact, all of those judgments are not just or wrong, then are corrected by people who live after them. Another example is about the achievement of a scientist, named after Albert Einstein, whose greatness obtained people recognizing after long times.

Secondly, there are many cases in which individuals’ achievement can be determined by their temporaries. In the circumstance, their temporaries’ knowledge of society is very imperative. They are quite familiar with the atmosphere of economy and social life at that time, which can help people make a perfect judgment. Another case, of evaluating people greatness, is that their contemporaries can fully determine individuals’ achievements not needing information from those who live after them. For example, Bill Gates set up his company in which the main products are Dos and Windows operating systems for computer, his greatness is already recognized by his contemporary.

Lastly, some circumstance may require the combination of two kinds evaluation referred above. Different cases need different determination. Sometime we can get temporaries’ evaluation from historical documents and add our idea to them. And then a fully systematic evaluation of individuals’ greatness will be appeared in front of us. If lacking any part of those, the conclusion maybe not just.

From what has been discussed above, we can find the title statement is over-simple. We should get that the greatness of individuals can be decided not only by those who live after them but by their temporaries or by both of them according to different cases.
