ISSUE220 - "The increase in knowledge is forcing people to specialize. As a result, the distance between fields of specialization has become so vast that specialists in different areas are rarely able to influence each other."
In the new era, the development of science and technology goes faster than any periods before. The knowledge is so vast that no one can master all of it. The whole knowledge is divided into many parts, such as maths, chemistry and etc. Each major has many different fields to study, it is called specialization. The more deeply in study, the more special it is. Even two chemistrists who study in different fields may give different right answers for the same question. But the distance between fields of specialization does not mean there is no communications and influences among the different specialists.
Maybe the specialists study in different fields, but they could influence each other well with generalization. At first they got the same knowledge when they were students. From the primary time to the college life, they learned a lot of basic knowledge which is essential to the future research. That is, their study is base on the same theories that had been proved right by previous scientists and absorbed by most of the scholars. So they could convince other scientists to know about their studies no matter whether it is right or not. Then they can commuciate well with each other and learn a lot from others in different fields. It is unsuitable to believe that there is a gap between different fields.
The specialists in different areas are able to influence each other well. In the society, there are many troublesome problems waiting to be sloved. In some conditions, most of them are so complex with several different causes that only one specialist in some field could not manage to solve the problem. It demands many specialists to handle it together, so everyone would communicate with each other to know more about the problem, then balance the benefits and loss and find out the best solution. If they do not do this, it might be worse to tackle it in a confused way than let it go.
However, sometimes specialists also have many theories could not be understood by other scholars especialy the one who is not study in the same field. The specialization has its own laws and theories, if one do not know a lot about it, he (she) could not get the right recognition about it. Thus, it would be difficult for someone who has never learned anything about the according knowledge to solve the problem. It is the specialization that has its both advantage and disadvantage.
In conclusion, scientists should deal with the generalization and specializaion well to promote their research. They could combine everyone's specialization as a whole generaliazation. With the generalization they could communicate well, while they might learn a lot from each other with the latter no matter how special their study would be. Thus, the combination of generalization and specialization would make unthoughtful effects on each cooperator.
