TOPIC: ISSUE36 - "The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries."

As our society becomes more complicated, it seems quite difficult for us to evaluate the accomplishments of great people of our time. This coincides with the feeling that it is as hard to judge the achievements of people of our preceding generations. In other words, deciding the greatness of contemporaries has no advantage over determining the greatness of our seniors.
The reason which can explain these two feelings is clear is as following. Since our society are developing into a diverse one, in which all kinds of ideas are mixed, it is impossible to find a criterion suitable enough and accepted by all the people to assess these great human-beings in preceding times as well as ours. Some people describe people whose invention can change the way people live in the future as a man of note, while some other people rank first in the eyes of people who believe influencing people's ways of thinking to be the most important character of great man. The comparison between these two standards is not strange. There is also debate on whether the accomplishments should be judged by his or her contemporaries or by their descendants. Due to the respective standards they take, these phenomenons seem possible to take place.
Firstly, assessments of contemporaries are based on the standards of their time and sometimes confined to the scope of theirs. People of our generation can never foresee the future of Einstein's glorious theory of relativity, not to mention his contemporaries. Only standing up on great man's shoulders can we better evaluate the greatness of important breakthrough in science, economics and other fields, which people of Einstein’s time can not succeed in doing. As we all know, Einstein's principle was in the center of a heat debate of his contemporaries, having no giant's shoulder to stand on, these people surely can never seen that far. But after about 30years, with the development of science and society, people nowadays are able to find a wilder scope to judge his achievements, or in other words, a new standard. We can now look at his theory on a more holistic plane. We can also remove personal prejudice from our criterion which is somewhat impossible in his time. Most importantly, our evaluation will be based on long term effect. All of these just come together to show that our judgment will be more objective.
Meanwhile, we can not ignore those comments from these great men's contemporaries as their ways of assessing will be more detailed. Since these people live at the same time with those men of note, they can better understand the difficulties those great men face therefore can appreciate those celebrities' originalities and perseverances. Some people were even these great men's friends or families, and in this situation, they have the most pervasive voice. They can tell us how these great men think and how they come up with those initiative ideas. Their words help a lot in determining the greatness of these men.
History is replete with examples of unfair assessments of great men and their achievements as well as examples of neglecting of accomplishments of great men in earlier times. Therefore, it is better to combine these two kinds of evaluations together and make a more full-scaled judgment of a man of note.

The reason which can explain these two feelings is clear is as following. (好像有点语法问题呀 The reason which can explain these two feelings is as following.)Since our society are developing into a diverse one, in which all kinds of ideas are mixed (新东方的老师说,能不用which尽量不用;改为Since all kinds of ideas are mixed in such a more and more diverse society如何?), it is impossible to find a criterion suitable enough(是不是应该加上个for) and accepted by all the people to assess these great human-beings in preceding times as well as ours. Some people describe people whose invention can change the way people live in the future as a man of note(建议把第一个people去掉), while some other people rank first in the eyes of people (是不是可以改成those。个人认为用people次数太多了)who believe influencing people's ways of thinking to be the most important character of great man. The comparison between these two standards is not strange. There is also debate on whether the accomplishments should be judged by his or her contemporaries or by their descendants. Due to the respective standards they take, these phenomenons (Typo要小心哦)seem possible to take place.

Only standing up on great man's shoulders can we better evaluate the greatness of important breakthrough in science, economics and other fields, which people of Einstein’s time can not succeed in doing.(建议改一下,有点拗口;which would not be available for the coevals of Einstein.) As we all know, Einstein's principle was in the center of a heat debate of his contemporaries, having no giant's shoulder to stand on, these people surely can never seen that far. But after about 30years, with the development of science and society, people nowadays are able to find a wilder scope to judge his achievements, or in other words, a new standard(是不是可以放到scope后面). We can now look at his theory on a more holistic plane. We can also remove personal prejudice from our criterion which is somewhat impossible in his time. Meanwhile, we can not ignore those comments from these great men's contemporaries as their ways of assessing will be more detailed. Since these people live at the same time with those men of note, they can better understand the difficulties those great men face (建议加上“,and”) therefore can appreciate those celebrities' originalities and perseverances (perseverance不可数名词). Some people were even these great men's friends or families, and in this situation, they have the most pervasive voice. They can tell us how these great men think and how they come up with those initiative ideas. Their words help a lot in determining the greatness of these men. (是不是应该加一个段落总结句?)
