TOPIC: ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."

Television has come to our world more than 50 years and has become a necessity in our life. The speaker claims that since televisions also broadcast information to audiences and people can learn much from the media as a result reading is not so important as before. I strongly disagree with this claim. The speaker has overlooked many advantages of reading which make it not replaceable.

I concede television, as a product of technology, has many advancing points with which can introduce people knowledge to learn. Television could broadcast many news or discoveries instantly while to books maybe we will wait for several months. Some excellent produced programs, with detailed explanations and vivid pictures shot from different angle of view, help people to understand more clearly and quickly. For example, the famous documentary Discovery that is popular among younger also adults describing the variety of the world from ancient monarch to contemporary leaders, from pyramids in Egypt to today's skyscrapers. In short, we do learn many things from the screen.

However, if you can do without the pleasures of televisions you will find that reading can provide you more delight in learning. First, learning needs a person to receive the information and digest it in detail, in this way can the knowledge be comprehended thoroughly. But as we all know, television programs often proceed quickly; some pictures are brought in front of us only a few seconds and the commentators rarely repeat their explanations over and over again. In this case, the image of the knowledge is general and not clear. Even if we know it exactly at the time, yet people's memory is limited so we probably will forget them later. Compared to this, books solve the problem. We have enough time to read the words carefully and if we forget what we have learned before we can turn a few pages back to find the answer. Reading applies an opportunity to consider the content repeatedly which is good to our learning.

Second, as books reflect human's ideas through language they have a big influence in using and expressing our language while television is inferior. By reading some work of great litterateurs who are versed in expressing, we can assimilate many outstanding use of language in order to advance our writing. For instance the prominent French novelist Maupassant is also famous in choosing words used in his novels. The words and sentences used in his stories are accurate and easy to be accepted to all as a result apart from the content of the novels itself, his articles can be rewarded as models to French learners.

Finally, television is a kind of media and it serves to the business at last after all. There are many news, comments, scandals etc filled in programs which include lots of fault or inaccurate information misleading public based on their motive not for learning. While the majority of books are read or checked by editor before publishing, the mistakes will be much less. Comparing the two ways, the lateral one is more convincing.

In sum, even if television provides us abundant information vividly it can not mask the light of reading. As an ancient habit of learning, reading gives us a peaceful environment to digest those knowledge which is necessary for curious people. Books can record history permanently and it is convenient for us to review what we have read before. Due to these characters enumerated which  television lacks, reading will never be substituted and will accelerate the spreading of human intelligence.

Television has come to our world (for?) more than 50 years and has become a necessity in our life. The speaker claims that since televisions also broadcast information to audiences and people can learn much from the media as a result reading is not so important as before. I strongly disagree with this claim. The speaker has overlooked many advantages of reading which make it not replaceable.

I concede television, as a product of technology, has many advancing points with which can introduce people knowledge to learn(从句语法有问题,没有主语,前面的with?). Television could broadcast many news or discoveries instantly while to books maybe we will wait for several months. Some excellent produced programs, with detailed explanations and vivid pictures shot from different angle of view, help people to understand more clearly and quickly. For example, the famous documentary Discovery that is popular among younger also adults describing(describes?) the variety of the world from ancient monarch to contemporary leaders, from pyramids in Egypt to today's skyscrapers.

Reading applies(用词觉得不合适) an opportunity to consider the content repeatedly which is good to our learning.

Second, as books reflect human's ideas through language they have a big influence in using and expressing our language while television is inferior. By reading some work of great litterateurs who are versed in expressing, we can assimilate many outstanding use of language in order to advance our writing. For instance the prominent French novelist Maupassant is also(为什么要“也”呢) famous in choosing words used in his novels. The words and sentences used in his stories are accurate and easy to be accepted to all as a result apart from the content of the novels itself, his articles can be rewarded as models to French learners(后面的展开没有跟学习挂钩).
Finally, television is a kind of media and it serves to the business at last(和after all重复使用) after all. There are many news, comments, scandals etc filled in programs which include lots of fault or inaccurate information misleading public based on their motive not for learning. While the majority of books are read or checked by editor before publishing, the mistakes will be much less. Comparing the two ways, the lateral one is more convincing.(错误少可以是论点,但在可信度上没有展开论证,书也是serve the bussiness的)
In sum, even if television provides us abundant information vividly it can not mask the light of reading. As an ancient habit of learning, reading gives us a peaceful environment to digest those knowledge which is necessary for curious people. Books can record history permanently and it is convenient for us to review what we have read before. 结尾很好

总体结构很好,但有一些长句的语法错误。展开论证不是很到位。

However, if you can do without the pleasures of televisions you will find that reading can provide you more delight in learning(pleasures?似乎电视也可以把,). First, learning needs a person to receive the information and digest it in detail, in this way can the knowledge be comprehended thoroughly. But as we all know, television programs often proceed quickly; some pictures are brought in front of us only a few seconds and the commentators rarely repeat their explanations over and over again. Reading applies an opportunity to consider the content repeatedly which is good to our learning.(论证不错,但似乎不能说明能带来pleasure)
