1。社会的进步就体现着社会对intellect的重视.
2。社会正规教育中对intellect的重视
3。社会对intellect作为单独学科出现时,重视不够

Dose the society not place enough emphasis on the intellect, as the speaker maintains? However, how much emphasis is enough or not? Maybe it is different person has different opinion. As far as I am concerned, the intellect has already been put enough emphasis in the world of today.
The prosperity of the society is an evidence for the great emphasis put on intellect by the society. Intellect is a part which is the foundation in almost every other aspects of a society, though it seldom appears as an independent one. Consequently, it is to some extent impossible for the society neglected the importance of the intellect during the process of improvement. The development of the industry, which is the main force to pull the advance of a society in the aspect of economic, can not realize without the good management as well as up-to-date technology, both of which are the outcome of intellect. In the field of politics, the art of being an effective leader also needs intellect when handle the problems. If a leader can not draw the real need of the general population from thousands of trivial cases by his or her reasoning and cognitive skills, it is hardly for him or her to be a qualified leader. As a result, without enough emphasis on the intellect the society can not be the one as we see now.
When we take the formal education, which might be the best way to understand the means of a society, in to consideration, the intellect is also one of the most important aspects for the students to mast, though sometimes it is not easy to notice. Almost every class required the students to use the cognitive skills to understand and almost every paper needs the students to deduce the answers from what the teachers have taught in classes by the reasoning skills. For example, when the teacher is instructing the students how to work out a mathematic problem, he or she dose not only teach them the method to get the answer to this very question, but also teach them how to handle all those questions belonging to the same kind and sometimes even acquired them to work out other related kinds of questions with making some changes to the method the teacher has taught to them. In this condition, the cognitive skills are passed to the students in a conceal way, while the effect remains the same. And when it comes to the case of the colleges and universities, the emphasis on the intellect is even greater. Doing researches, no matter which field they are belong to, intellect is the prerequisite of them. Citizens educated in such system are likely to put the intellect at the top place unconsciously when they enter the society.
Admittedly, when the intellect is treated as an independent field, the emphasis from the society is relatively less. There are few occupations in the society are designed for the students majoring in philosophy, which is a field of science concentrating on the intellect only. And the great thinkers in a society are often can not be taken seriously. For example, though the world famous Chinese thinker Kong Uzi proposed the theory that the different students should be taught according to their different attributes thousands of years ago, this theory can still not be used in the education systems of China.
To sum up, though the disciplines considering only on intellect are not so pervasive the society, it does not necessarily means that the emphasis put on the intellect is not enough. In fact, intellect related with everyday life has already been evaluated highly disobviously. |
