Argument 142牛羊肉和心脏病
Outline: 1.the recent study data is too vague to show the link between the two
            2. the high iron is not an exclusive reason for the link between red meat and heart disease
3.no evidence that the two correlation are interrelated.

Reading a report about the link between high levels of iron in diet and an increased risk of heart disease, coupled with his/her common sense of the correlation between the large amount of red meat which contains high iron and the heart disease, the speaker asserted an interrelationship between the two links. This assertion is quite reasonable at the first glance; however, a careful examination of this argument would reveal how groundless the conclusion is.

First of all, the recent study published in Eating for Health which served as an evidence for the correlation between high-iron diet and increasing risk of heart disease fails to provide us any data to assure its reliability. It does not give us any substantial numbers such as how much iron in the diet will be considered to be high level and the number of people who suffered from heart disease merely due to the intake of high-iron food, and of course the rate of heart disease for people who do not take in high-iron diet, without which the speaker can not clarify what the correlation really is.

Secondly, the speaker’s assumption of high iron in the red meat as the only cause of the link between large amount red meat in the diet and heart disease apparently lacks of an overall consideration, and thus is fallacious. There is a good chance it is the excessive fat and heat the meat eater intake that make them put on weight then burden their body as well as heart, and consequently accounts for the heart disease. Or their over-taking of meat which calls for speeding blood circulation in order to provide enough oxygen for the stomach to work finally induces the heart disease. Before ruling out these possibilities stated above, it is impossible to assess that it is the iron in red meat leads to a rise in the risk of heart disease.

Last but not the least, the conclusion that the link between high iron levels and heart disease is the function of the correlation between red meat and heart disease is seriously flawed in that there is no evidence to show that all the people suffering from heart disease due to high iron intake eat large amount, or even any, red meat. Red meat probably never appears on their dinning table, instead they may obtain iron from other vegetables containing iron, and the ingredient such as salt, or even any cooked food due to the iron pan they use( in China, some families even use this method intentionally to provide the family members necessary iron element). In absence of all these considerations, I can not be convinced that red meat plays the role.

To make this argument more grounded and reliable, more precise information is needed to substantiate the report and a comprehensive analysis is required in order to cogently identify the actual cause of increasing risk of heart disease among people, and give out healthier diet advise.

语言变化丰富是lz的特点,非常佩服。逻辑上也没什么大的问题。
