I agree that scandals do attract our attention in ways speaker and reformer never could. However, it does not follow that scandals can be useful.

With their sensational content and their specific ways, some scandals aim at attracting as many people as possible but not reporting the facts. Some people may wonder why these scandals could attract our attention while the reformer and speaker could not. It is no doubted that the inborn curiosity of people provides the needs of the creation of scandals since scandals are always contradict with our common recognition. So people will pour into everlasting energy to trace the initials and the following development of scandals. The media, driven by maximum profits and acted as the retailers, never stop providing or delving the scandals, even make some scandals to enhance profits. Hence they will disseminate these scandals as rapid as they could. Some celebrities such as entertainment stars, acted as providers, sometimes deliberately fabricate some scandals in order to increase their exposure possibilities. Or to win in the competition, some individuals will act as distracters to beat others and they will produce some scandals, as well. Thereby, scandals with their rapid-spreading, vast-reaching, and long-lasting lead them eyes-catching. In this sense, no speaker or reformer could get such effect.

Knowing the origination of scandals, we may be alarm to answer whether scandals are useful or not. It goes without saying that scandals have some negative effects to the society and the individuals. Firstly, facing so many scandals, people will confuse about the situation of the society. Once watching outstanding creative in scientific, people will doubt whether it is true, just another Korean scientist? Or is the outcome just plagiarized? Viewing one politic figure that is great important in certain engineering program, some will ask whether that guy has received venal. The people may lose fundamental trust about the media, the public figure and even the society. After all, scandals reveal the back facets of society whether they are genuine or not. Secondly, these scandals occupy so many energy and time with which people could do many other meaningful things. There are so many that deserved to pay attention or to do aside from caring about scandals. Thirdly, for these fabricated scandals, the figure once slandered, the reputation is hard to be renewed. Therefore, scandals may mislead the people and distract the people’s attention.

Admittedly, scandals could be useful due to common attraction. Although scandals are negative, it is beneficial to solve relative problem and might be alert for the afterwards. The paradigmatic modern example is the Watergate scandal. The president Nickerson had to recede to the president elation and the later elaters will be more cautious. While if a society mainly depends on scandals to expose the shortcomings and to solve problems in politic, academic or other areas’ system, its legal or formal form of supervision may be malfunction. After all, scandals are negative to the curiosity person, to those who are involving in the events, and to the society. Therefore, the acclamation that scandals can expose social problems actually overstates the role of scandals.

In sum, scandals do have some profound significance in some aspects, while it is unsuitable to pay too much attention to scandals. After all, from the origination of some scandals, it is to appeal attraction; and too many scandals will cause people to have negative impression to the society.

嗯，谢谢小太阳和changfeng，我的理解是这样的：

我分析了丑闻有市场的原因：好奇心，媒体的推动，还有个人的出风头和竞争对手的故意之举。
知道了丑闻的产生原因，那么我们判断他是否有用就会谨慎：但是丑闻对社会和个人的负面作用是不言而遇的：对社会来讲太多的丑闻，就是社会太阴暗了，比如学术丑闻太多，有重大发现时我们就会怀疑是否造假。对个人一是关注丑闻浪费时间，还有捏造的丑闻对个人伤害大；
丑闻对揭示问题还是有作用的，但是社会如果过分依赖丑闻，说明正规渠道的功能失调！

因为这些偶像在人们心目中是完美的，不会出现错误的，所以有丑闻，人们会吃惊，会关注；

是这样的一因为方舟子的网站上的太多，所以对国内的学术界不相信了，一般说谁谁太牛，我的第一反应是有没有造假，呵呵！
还有现在对於二奶的报道太多，是不是也影响我们对社会的看法，可惜我不会表达，----呵呵！

nod nod我一直深深苦恼这个问题，所以看来还是在逻辑上下功夫，尽量没有漏洞，但是这也挺难的！
