Through merely a click, in front of the television and computer，you could travel tens thousands of miles in a minute from China to America across the Atlantic Ocean. This kind of convenience, however, will not diminish people’s enthusiasm towards the real traveling, namely—tourism.

In the year 1981, only 231 computers were connected to internet, a number which then had increased to 400 million by the year of 2000. Now the users of internet are more than 1 billion scattering in every corner of the world, sharing their information including the beautiful landscape all over the globe. People now are enjoying an exuberant information reservoir. Unfolding a map and tap any name appeared on it, such as Bali, into the search engine Google, you will get millions of results including Bali’s pictures, landscape video tour, news, people, government, hotel, entertainment, almost every facet you can think of. It is also true with the television, the program such as national geography and discovery might take you everywhere in the world no matter it is on the 29 percent of earth or under the 71 percent of water. The overwhelming information surely can acquaint people with a great many places they have never visited or even never imagined to visit and open people’s eyes.

With the advent of advanced technology stated above, some people anticipate the tourism to be replaced and become obsolete, which actually reportedly showing a sign of increasing on the wing throughout the globe.

As long as people still hold the curiosity, they will never be satisfied with mere eyes tour in front of the machines. The images and video tapes they see on the screen may only serve as an introduction of a place of interest in their eyes, which inspired their curiosity and craving to go and visit that place by themselves. A man sitting in front of the TV, appreciating the vast pasture, various animals and spectacular Sydney Opera House in Australia will surely wish to stand in the middle of the boundless prairie, surrounded by groups of wild kangaroos, getting a glimpse of the baby kangaroo in its Mum’s pocket, cradling for a while the lazy koala and then to climb up onto the top of Harbor Bridge, obtaining a brave certificate, all of which can not be realized by watching TV or surfing on net that only presents the outlook without a feeling of real closeness.

Moreover, tourism, for some people, serves as a way of life which can not be altered by their exposure to the media, rather than only a channel of getting knowledge or entertainment. Different people have different ways to kill their spare time in order to refresh and rejuvenate themselves after a long period of hard working or get relaxed putting aside all the annoying things happened in life. Many people who lead a healthy life might chose traveling, which they consider to be a popular activity combining together body exercise, learning knowledge and entertaining. Walking in different roads and climbing up different mountains, they become stronger; talking and communicating with people in various countries, they gain an insightful perspective towards the world; exploring all kinds of unfamiliar customs, they find endless laughs. Action and reaction is one thing that cold machine can not work for people.

Finally, with the awareness of the “Global village” trend, many governments have adopted the policy to support the tourism and improve the traveling condition domestically, some of which are sending out their agencies to other countries in the aim of  bringing back more tourists in order to boost their economy by the increased revenue coming from tourism.

Browsing the materials on the screen is like to see the world through a window, while traveling takes you out of the room and touch the world by yourself.
