87. "In any field of inquiry, the beginner is more likely than the expert to make important discoveries."
新与旧
Words 573                                                        time about 1 h
The speaker asserts that in all fields, the new hand is more likely than the expert to make significant discoveries. In my view of course, the possibility for the beginner to discover something new is usually higher than old hand does it. However when it comes to important discoveries, plenty of cases show that many of crucial findings require a large amount of knowledge, experience and experiment which are obtained by experts. Otherwise, the essential discoveries lacking of these conditions can be a daydream or need quite long time to achieve at last.

There are several reasons for my fundamental disagreement with the speaker are that the beginner is easily to detect something new in that he or she is full of passion and very interested in exploring new fields to look for the possibility of finding new theory and create his or her own academic field. But at last lots of new hands just find something new and do not make any further progresses. To exemplify this point obviously, take a case as an example that is very compelling in 2003 a very serious infection SARS which is like an evil spread in Asia and devoured thousands of people’s lives suddenly. At the first glance, the patient who attacked by SARS was like getting flu containing cold and fever. However only a few days later he or she became sicker and sicker, at the same time, all the medicines which are made for flu were useless. No doctors knew what happened and only could look at them dead. It was a new illness and nobody knew and saw it before. I believe the new doctor might discover it was a new one first, because the new hand was closer to patients than experts did and at the first few days when SARS was quite like flu, he or she due to facing the first job would be more careful and not lose any various details, and then detected the flu is different. There is no doubt that it is very difficult for the beginner to identify what the contagion which was very complicated and absolutely a new one was.

Another reason why I essentially disagree with the speaker is that in most cases not unimportant discoveries should be obtained with ample knowledge and experience which are at times kept by the expert not the beginner. To demonstrate the view evidently, let us take a look at the same illustration as the first one. How to identify what the new illness was after the beginner realized it was the old one? Apparently, the expert would pick up how many differences between SARS and flu with their experience and observe dissimilar reactions after patients took pills.  Meanwhile, they would research the new illness with former similar cases as such 乙脑 which is like fever but more serious and then examine the whole sick body to find out where was the problem came. Fortunately, at last, a group of experts found that it had something strange in patients’ lung and then discover how to handle SARS and healed followed ones. Obviously make big discoveries is a very difficult and complicated work. The possibilities for the beginner to settle it down are very low.

In all in, I partially agree with the speaker that it is easy for the new hand to make discoveries but not important ones which need the expert’s knowledge and experience and of course a lot of various experiments.

There are several reasons for my fundamental disagreement with the speaker(语法有点小问题.改成The reasons for my disagreement are that... there be 结构后面不能直接跟be动词吧.) are that the beginner is easily to detect something new in that he or she is full of passion and very interested in exploring new fields to look for the possibility of finding new theory and create his or her own academic field. lz以后要多注意语言上的一些问题,尤其是长句.句子太长容易写乱,可以长短 句结合,而且要留心每个句子的完整.逻辑也有些不够清楚.可多参考ets范文,多看他们如何让例子为TS服务.
