Were the most important events and trends during history made possible by groups of people whose identities have already been forgotten instead of few famous individuals? And does the study of history put unnecessary emphasis/stress/value on those individuals? I fundamentally disagree with the speaker for the reason that these great individuals do play a vital role in history and with time passing by, they have become the symbols for certain spirits, and therefore they deserve the great emphasis placing on them. However, on the other hand, groups of people who may be completely unknown or unrecognized provide fundamental support which is also indispensable and their importance should never be underestimated.Concerning those few individuals’ great contributions, history, a mirror of the past time, of course should place sufficient emphasis on them. Great individuals, usually serving as leaders of groups of people, have an outstanding perception of the world and enjoy a distinguished charisma which calls on his people to unite around them and fight, and it is these individuals that lead people to achieve success. One strong illustration of this point involves Martin Luther King, an outstanding advocate of nonviolent protest, one of the major leaders of the American civil rights movement and also Nobel Prize winner. Due to his great effort in challenging the racial discrimination and segregation, many white Americans turned to support the clause of civil rights and which is passed by at last and then exerts a profound influence on the society. Were it not for the contribution of great individuals like Martin Luther King, we would still live in a society without Moreover, the few great individuals should be placed emphasis not only because of their outstanding contributions but also because that they are symbols of some spirits which inspired people to move on. (这个论点很新颖,我喜欢:)Take Martin Luther King again, though assassinated in 1968, he became the symbol of struggling against racial discrimination and segregation, and drive all the people, including the contemporary and descendents to fight for justice and freedom. (这里换作圣女贞德或者勇敢的心的主人公华莱士会不会好一点?主要是为了避开例子的重复使用。)Also, consider Columbus (Taking Columbus into consideration), who is one of the most influential explorers of the millennium. In one sense, we commemorate him not only for his discovery of the Americas, but also for his quality of courage, skill, and adventurousness, all of which consist of American spirits. From learning about these individuals in history, people may get a better understanding of certain spirits and it even helps them to develop such characters.Nevertheless, we should not overlook the power of groups of people, who are the foundations of success of those few great individuals. Can individuals achieve success merely on their own? Can they be isolated from groups of people? No matter how strong, how intellectual, how outstanding and how wise any individual is, he or she can not create history without the help from others, most of them may be unrecognized. For instance, if no soldier is willing to fight, even (although) the general is very wise and full of stratagems, he can (is unable to) still not win any battle. In a word, the enforcement of any command, regulation, or idea should be based on those groups of people. To sum up, the few individuals who are famous and play a vital role in the history deserve the emphasis placed on them. However, we should still give sufficient attention to the groups of people, who gained no great fame but play an active and basic role in certain events and trends in history. 觉得你写的很不错了,给你提供一些例子,也许有助于打开思路, 最近大家都好忙,我的这篇作业还没有人批改,有空的时候也帮我拍拍哈:)谢谢!!! |
