Nowadays, our society is fraught with scandals., varying from economical to religious field, from politicians to athletes. Does these scandals benefit us? The speaker claims scandals “can be useful”. In my opinion, it is our attitudes towards scandals, rather than scandals themselves, determine whether or not we can benefit from it.
I agree with the speaker on the basis that scandals are useful if they can be turned to serious accounts. First, scandals, being treated properly, serve to discover potential (漏洞 ) in present systems, no matter economical or academical. And by revealing these otherwise neglected drawbacks, we can improve our existing norms, (制度), thus accordingly get advanced. In …, many companies ,for instance, learned form the bankruptcy of the ARON that over… is bad for the development of themselves, so after seriously investigation the possible cause of the failure of the ARON, they enhanced their works by revising their developmental plans. We can see from this case that scandals can be the best (教材) to teach us how to avoid similar mistakes our forebears or peers did, if we get down to examine them thoroughly.
Moreover, scandals also work as supervisors in morality, contributing to the prevention of our wrongdoings. Scandals draw our attention to the negative aspects of our society, and actually set some positive moral atmosphere to help us tell events we are encouraged to do from those we should reject to do. A telling example is the (反兴奋剂) movement in sports field. The way we treat such scandals play an important role in our getting rid of such immoral events. By publican condemn and severe punishment, (体育界) impress a definite opposing attitude toward durgs on the players so that one who try to cheat in an equal sports event should at least think twice before he or she do so. We can see that if we regard scandals in its proper perspectives, we of course can benefit from it.
However, the word ”scandal” also means….. And if we focus mainly on pursuiting their sensational effects, so that catering to certain individuals’ curiosity, then scandals do more harm than good. For it strips us of our time and energy, which we can otherwise use to do some more significant events. For example, there are abundant entertaimnetal scandals in the media, which are mostly concerned with love affairs about pop starts. It is a pity, for pop artistic form is really a good cause, and the essence of it is totally neglected when it gets to be associated with bad scandals. The problem now facing us is, what is gong to be done with this sort of scandals. Of course we can let it go and concentrate more on the artistic performance of pop artists.
In sum, scandals themselves has nothing to do with advances in our society. What hinges on is our attitudes toward them. If we turn a more serious account to them and endeavour to use them to revise jour present mistakes or prevent future likewise mistakes, then scandals are useful.
