TOPIC: ISSUE46 - "While some leaders in government, sports, industry, and other areas attribute their success to a well-developed sense of competition, a society can better prepare its young people for leadership by instilling in them a sense of cooperation."

It is the sense of cooperation more than competition that young people need in order to become leaders, as the speaker asserts. I agree with the statement while considering the significance of cooperation especially for the leaders.

With respect to the society as well as the development of the science and technique, the necessity of cooperation can not be neglected. Consider the speciality of the technique, the result of which is that it is difficult for only one person or one company to do all the things on their own. The manufacture of the watch in Swiss, which is famous all around the world, illustrates the point well. Instead of making the whole watch in Swiss, each part of the product is made separately in different countries. As each part of the watch need special technique, making all of them demands large quantities of factories and machines. The cooperation improves the efficience and benifits each of the country which take part in the manufacture. Consider the large information people encountered nowadays, which also demands the system of coopetation. Fox example, the Human Genome Project, in which there were six countries participating, decodes the whole genome of human beings in only a few years. Unless the handreds of scientists coopetating can the project accomplated by now.

Although the sense of coopetation plays an unneglected role today, however, it is competition that the impetus of the development, not only for the individuals but also for the whole society. The sense of compitition provides the pressure for people, which demands the individual trying his best. The competition of sports and business all interpret the viewpoint. There are so many instances of runners break the record at Olympic Games which is impossible while training. Only can a person fell pressure, he will discover his potential. Imagining that without competition, how can people except the leader endeavor to do the best? Without competition, as well, how can the customers except the price of the products declined? That is the sense of competition to uncover the protential of human and pull the whole society developing. Only realizing that other countries are developing rapidly, the government will pay more attention to the economy of the country, which improve the ability of the whole country or even the whole world. That is the same to the ascepts of science and technique.

After all, coopetation and competition are not incompactable. They are the two sides of a coin, one of which enlarges while the other does. All of them are necessary abilities of becoming leaders in almost every areas, for the leaders should know and uncover the protantial as well as realizing the importance of cooperating. Without other's help, nobody can success at last, while only living comfortable without pressure also spoils a talent.

In sum, preparing the young people for leadership, the society should teach them how to coopetate as well as competiting, each of which is the necessity of the success and development. Only concerned with one of them will not be a good leader.
