The argument starts with an evidence of statistics collected from dentists which suggests that men are more likely to feel painful when they get the dental treatments than women do. Then it concludes that dentists who advertise to attract patients should pay more attention to male consumers and emphasize the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients as well. The reasoning seems reasonable, but it doesn't give the sufficient reasons why not targeting the female consumers or emphasizing the effectiveness of their treatments.

It seems quite reasonable to target the male consumer because more men faint than women do when they have dental work done. However, maybe women are more willing to spend the money on dental treatments, because, as far as everyone knows, women always pay more attention to the appearance including their teeth than men do. They desire healthy white teeth more than man. They visit the dentists not only when they have toothache but also when they hope that their teeth could be better. The advertisements which only catch the men's eyes will ignore the huge female consumer. It will lead to huge loss to the dental clinics.

The second conclusion from the evidence of the statistics collected from dentists is to emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients. The statement wants to tell us that they will provides better techniques and services to relieve the pains of the male patients. Do men care the effectiveness of the anesthetic techniques more than the effectiveness of the treatments? Moreover, maybe they care more about the price and that kind of advertisements in the argument will make they worry that they would pay more treatment's fees.

The argument above considers men as the protential major consumers for the dentists just according to the statistics collected from dentists. It is quite possible that the women who faint more easily didn't take part in the statistics. We have sufficient reasons to doubt the realibility of the statistics. The dentist could do further survey to make sure that the statistical data is from a group of members who can represent all the protential patients.

The conclusion of the argument is arguable and according to the analysis above, the dentists who advertise to attract patients should think about their focus carefully.
