TOPIC: ISSUE99 - "In any realm of life-whether academic, social, business, or political-the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic views tend to be superceded by simpler, more immediate options."

Some people argues that the only way to survival, even to success is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. I basically agree that pragmatic view is really fundamental for survival. Nevertheless, on the way to success, idealistic view is also need to be take.

Pragmatism is useful and helpful when it comes to the realms that are much practical. For instance, to a company, though it might have a great objective, it has to deal with the current things every day. A president of a company would have to think about the factory, the plants, and the money and assembly-lines, etc. If a CEO does not take a practical point of view, the company will finally fall down. Besides that, when it comes to politics, a politician who wants to run for mayors, presidents or premiers, have to consider how he or she could be remembered in people's minds of so many candidates. What is more, they will try hard to get enough fund from some companies to support them to win the competition. And though they will also supply some objective and prospect of government and country, which is almost nothing comparative to win the job. A person without a pragmatic point of view is not a proper leader, who cannot give more to most people and guarantee the survival.

Idealism also plays an important role in many aspects that contact less people and social things. In the realm of arts, artists could depict the paragraph deep in their hearts, writers could write the society which is thought almost perfect. Since they also carve the current case in nowadays, they are more likely to make the thing in their hands idealistic, which is what most artists do and contribute. Moreover, in the realm of science, scientists and researchers often do things with an idealistic opinion. Though pragmatic view is necessary to them when they do research, without idealism technology and science could not develop quickly and reach the current level. For example, computers, assembly-lines, steam engines, and other many other things, are all the results of idealism at root. Idealism could accommodate a way to pragmatism in science.

However, we have to admit that in many cases, pragmatic behavior is the least thing we can do to guarantees survival. People have to study and work to live a better life, no matter scientists, executives, offices, artists,etc. A practical view of point is necessary for people to live in the world. But on the way to success, pragmatism is not enough. If a person does not have an ideal, there is no meaning for living and he or she will not success forever. An ideal could lead people to what he or she wants to do and where he or she would like to go. They are both crucial to success, and cannot leave each other on the way to success.

In sum, as for living at least, a practical point of view is indispensable for survival. However, if people want to do more things and be successful, they also have to take the ideal view with them.
