TOPIC: ISSUE13 - "Many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct."

Should government try to save the lesser-known languages in the world? The speaker claims that with fewer and fewer people speaking the minor languages, it is the government's responsibility act in order to prevent such languages from becoming extinct. From my perspective, it is true that lesser-known languages are great heritages from our forefathers which we should treasure; however, the distinction of the minor languages is the necessary result of the development of society that government should not pay excess attention to them.
Admittedly, minor languages are precious heritages for our society. They truly record the conditions of the old times--such as how people talked and sang--both of which reflect the lifestyle, the thoughts, and the entertainment of the groups who use them. Without the lesser-known languages, rarely can we understand what our forefathers did in their times, which is a great lost for people who research history and human beings. What is more, some art can only express by these minor languages. Take a certain Africa song as an example, once the language of the song disappears, the song will forgotten by people soon for the reason that nobody can comprehend the meaning of this lyric. Then the culture, not only the art but also other relevant history will extinct at last. Hence, our society will suffer a severe loss of cultural heritage if the lesser-known languages really disappear from the world someday because these languages are a indispensable part of our culture.
However, with the increasing communication and cooperation with countries, the minor languages are to some extent an obstacle of the development of world as a whole. As we know, English is the world official language at president--which is used by more and more people. Organizations and individuals all connect together through the same language-English. With the same language, countries can communicate with each other easily and then the cooperation of economical, political, and cultural increase as a result. For example, with the successful understanding and connection with other countries, the human gene research has started--which is to a large extent thanks to the mutual using of language. Just imagine, if one speaks a minor language, the other speaks another lesser-known language, how can the two people understand the meaning and plan of each other? And then people from different countries all work together to discuss or carry out the plan will be just a fantasy.
In addition, not all governments have the competence to take action and stop the minor languages from extinction. There are other problems exist in the world, like the environmental pollution, the sex discrimination, the unemployment of residents, and so on--all of which are urgent to be resolved. Since government has limited funds, it is more important to act to settle such problems which are already threatened the quality of people and the stabilization of the whole society.
All in all, in my point of view, although the lesser-known languages are helpful for us to better understand the life and culture of our ancestors; however, the fact that some of them will disappear in the future is the condition that cannot be changed. What the government should do is to pay attention and funds to more significant problems and build up a greater society for people's life in the future, which is far more crucial than take action to prevent the minor languages from extinction.
