Only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, will education be truly effective? Concerning the purpose of education, I strongly disagree with the speaker's assertion.
To begin with, this foregoing question reminds us another one; that is, what is the purpose of education? Over this issue many people, including experts and ordinary people(everyman,layfolk), carry out a drastic debate for centuries-some argue that the purpose of education is to meet societies' needs and give whatever knowledge societies need, regardless what students want to learn(这句好生硬啊 thereby overlooking what students want to learn); some others' view point(到底用view还是point?去掉一个吧) is that education is used to teach students how to support themselves; also some others ' opinion is to teach student rather how to think, than what to want to learn(不知道你想说什么~汗); rather to encourage them to find the potential abilities, than to teach the skills to earn money. In my view, education's purpose is to teach students how to think, and to form their own opinion towards world, life, and value. In that case, students in education should be passive ones-be taught how to perceive, and how to think. Thus, education assumes an active role to teach students, not is designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.
Moreover, education's active role is understandable. Students, especially pupils, are more or less ignorant towards the out (real)world, because they may be born as talented ones but know nothing at the very beginning这句也看不懂,你想表达什么意思啊. Thus, they need to be taught the basic knowledge, and to form the habit to think by themselves-of which both are essential to cultivate innovative and imaginable students. If we take a gem to do a comparison, the gem is a student(,) and the education is a skillful person who is good at changing natural gems into beautiful ones. Even if the gem is wonderful, no skillful person exists to reshape it, and it would merely be a natural gem, with great value concealed.
Admittedly, successful education, at the same time, should be one that can adapt itself to the needs and the talents of students. If it fails to do so, just like a gem is destroyed completely, since the "skillful" person is only (加个somebody才正确)looks skillful and actually a bad one and does not follow the inborn features and characters of the gem to design and reshape it. When we show our pities to this gem, we should reflect that education should be a passive one too. Especially exceptionable students, if we compare them as gold covered, education is (写错了吧,改成's)main task is to unearth them.
To sum up, favorable education should (又漏了be)such one-on one hand gives students basic knowledge and teaches them how to think; on the other hand perceives what kinds students are and meet they demand and help themselves to make best use of their inborn talent. If the education cannot fulfill these, it would be a pure structure, and cannot make itself to be(把to be 去掉把) in accordance with its name. |
