Who gives the lasting value of art to society, those artist or critics? The speaker think these great job was done by artist and I agree with it . Through critics play a necessary role in the realm of art , the value of art comes mainly, if not all , from the artists .

First turn to the oldest purpose of art . The earliest art such as printing, singing, dance was used to record the life , death, hunt , funeral , religion and sometimes even be a part of them . Through by strictly definition they are not true art in nowadays , it is undeniable that they show invaluable value to human beings . Without them , specially those printings on stone and in caves , we can get much less information of our ancestors’ life and environment . It is not sure that whether these achievements was done by some individuals or common wisdom , but it is clear that it is ‘artist ’ , not critic made these achievements . Critics , along with other experts as historians , archeologists just explain and asses this kind of ‘art ’ , but not help creating some lasting value.     

Then take a look at another fundamental purposes of art—expressing artists’ happiness, anger, depression , experiences and some thought of life , love , society, universe ,etc. To many artists , printing, writing , music, sculpture and other sorts of art just serve as a way to express their ideas . For example , Beethoven ‘s <eighth concerto> strongly represents his dissatisfaction and hate of unfair society in Europe while <seventh concerto > exhibits his love of nature. I concede that critics could help many people get a deeper insight into article works , especially those who have little knowledge about art. However , lasting value inside these immortal works is ultimately created by those artists with fantasy ides and excel skills .Moreover, we must be cautious with criticism for that critics often make mistakes and unfair comments . Many example in the history of art have proven it.

The last reason supporting my view lies in art’s function of entertainment . To know this purpose of art one needn’t look further than our daily life .  Everyday we encounter numerous ads of movies , records , shows , concerts and so on , they are surrounding us everywhere. The primary goal of these fields of art is to maximize profits , which leads to the result that critics do have great influence on the process of directing , composing and performance , in other words , to some extent critics in fact create value. But is this kind of value lasting? I think most of it is not . Many commercial arts , for instance, pop music , really have little meaning in them because to entertain their audience , mainly youngsters , deep content is not needed . And my empirical experience shows that most popular songs do not last long than years and quickly be forgotten . Look at those classic movies and music which I think contain some lasting value. They do not pay any attention to comments , but concentrate only on the meanings and performance . It is evident that their success comes from artist rather than critics.

In sum , I strongly agree with the claim that it is artist , not critic that bring lasting value to us .Seen from the functions of art -- recording, expressing, entertainment, it can all lend credence to my opinion and critics just play a assistant role in the realm of art .
