103."The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."
只有当历史和我们的生活相关时,对它的研究才有扩展性和价值

601 words

Where does the value of the study of history stand? The speaker claims that study of history has value only to the extent of relating to our daily lives. In my point of view, there's no doubt study of history related to daily lives would bring us some benefits, however, the importance of history research would reach a more extensive spectrum, from personal level of morality establishment to the solidity of a nation and human development.

Admittedly, study of history could help people to get advantages from our ancestors and engenders us not to repeat their wrongdoings. No one would argue that history is the best teacher for current people. Learned the lesson from history, people could revise their strategy in dealing with obstacles in different realms that relate to our current life for tremendous similarities between contemporary events and incidents in history we can find. Hadn't attendants of the Continent Congress noticed the severe social problems in aristocracy in Europe before the French Revolution, the colonial states might had possessed the same regime as their European counterparts and never existed this world of freedom and democracy. And in the field of jurisprudence, for instance, the study of precedent cases establishes the gold standard for later lawsuits which belong to the same category. Our consensus on the issue that any events would be tomorrow's history makes us focus more on such study of history that relates to current lives, and as a natural consequence, it easily drives people to take it for granted that there stands the value of history research.

Nevertheless, it would be a partial perspective that any intelligent people would reject. Life is indeterminable, no prophets could predict what will happen in our lives the next minute, let alone pointing out the exact part of history which would relate to the future life. If Napoleon had any sense of the arctic winter in Russia which led to his first fiasco in military life, he would not hesitate any minute to concentrate on the study of the history why Crusades which tried to expand the Holy lands to the realms under Czar’s sovereignty ended with routs. Or even we knew what part of history would be useful in the future and needs more attention, it is quite likely that in years the deliberated study of the history is totally a worn-out which is merely a waste of time and resources.

On another hand, the significance of the study of history has much broader impression not only on personal life, but to the whole extent of existence. For human beings, history is the best encyclopedia that encloses all spectrums of knowledge. By learning the social development, we get the clues of how physics, medicine and art derived from theology. And the study of ethnical conflictions in history might bring more adherences to people of a nation. Or after comparing the development of ideology in western world and that in eastern countries could we have better idea of how to solve the religious conflicts and repair the ethnical fissures among residents on Earth village. Simply focusing on one part of the history which we think is relating to our lives might lead to irredeemable loss in self-identity, national dignity and ethnical consonance.

In sum, the study of history has more values than we can expect. Utilitarian attitudes on the study of history just for the purpose of getting advices might impose some advantages to our lives, but more importantly, such allegation would tarnish the legacy we inherited from our ancestors and overshadow the significances it would do to varieties of fields.

Where does the value of the study of history stand? The speaker claims that (+the) study of history has value only to the extent of relating (being related) to our daily lives. In my point of view, there's no doubt study of history related to daily lives would bring us some benefits, (;) however, the importance of history research would (should) reach a more extensive spectrum, from personal level of morality establishment to the solidity of a nation and human development (from personal morality establishment to the solidity of national development).

Admittedly, study of history could help people to get advantages (implications) from our ancestors and engenders (enables) us not to repeat their wrongdoings. No one would argue that history is the best teacher for current people. Learned (learning) the lesson from history, people could revise their strategy (strategies) in dealing with obstacles in different realms that relate to our current life for (because of/ as a result of) tremendous similarities between contemporary events and incidents in history we can find. Hadn't attendants of the Continent Congress noticed the severe social problems in aristocracy in Europe before the French Revolution, the colonial states might had possessed the same regime as their European counterparts and never existed this world of freedom and democracy. And in the field of jurisprudence, for instance, the study of precedent cases establishes the gold (golden) standard for later lawsuits which belong to the same category. Our consensus on the issue that any events would be tomorrow's history makes us focus more on such study of history that relates to current lives, and as a natural consequence, it easily drives people to take it for granted that there stands the value of history research.

Nevertheless, it would be a partial perspective that any intelligent people would reject (it could be a biased perspective that intelligent people may disagree). Life is indeterminable, (+and) no prophets could predict what will happen in our lives the next minute (in the next minute of our lives), let alone pointing out the exact part of history which would relate to the future life. If Napoleon had any sense of the arctic winter in Russia which led to his first fiasco in military life, he would not hesitate any minute to concentrate on the study of the history why Crusades which tried to expand the Holy lands to the realms under Czar’s sovereignty ended with routs. Or even we knew what part of history would be useful in the future and needs (need) more attention, it is quite likely that in years the deliberated study of the history is totally a worn-out which is merely a waste of time and resources.

On another (the other) hand, the significance of the study of history has much broader impression not only on personal life, but to the whole extent of existence. For human beings, history is the best encyclopedia that encloses all spectrums of knowledge. By learning the social development, we get the clues of how physics, medicine and art derived from theology. Or after comparing the development of ideology in western world and that in eastern countries could we (we could) have better idea of how to solve the religious conflicts and repair the ethnical fissures among residents on Earth village. Simply focusing on one part of the history which we think is relating (related) to our lives might lead to irredeemable loss in self-identity, national dignity and ethnical consonance.
