Issue31 "Money spent on research is almost always a good investment, even when the results of that research are controversial."

I strongly disagree with the speaker's assertion that money spend on research  is almost always the money well invested, especially the research may bring about adverse results. Besides, whether results of certain research are controversial or not should not be the judge that determines whether money should be invested into the research which produces this result.

In my opinion, the value of money invested in research should be determined by whether the results of research are constructive to the well-being of humanity or detrimental to it. As we all know, research, especially those in scientific field, may cause disaster to mankind. Consider, for example, "Manhattan Project" which was intended to develop atom bomb preceding Nazi Germany. A large number of distinguished scientists had been involved and abundant money had invested in this project. But, what is the result of this project? Numerous innocent people in Japan had been the victims of this project. Moreover, some countries which had perceived the threat from America also had set about developing atom bomb, for fear that they may be the next Japan. As a result, our world has become more and more at risk. Because the destructive mighty force of only one atom bomb will be powerful enough to cause devastating catastrophe to human-beings. So, the money spend in Manhattan Project is sure to be a bad investment.

However, if well invested in some fields which may bring some benefits to our mankind, the money can be termed as having good value. Consider, the money invested in the research of ADIS. Nowadays, ADIS is known as a kind of irremediable disease. So, a large number of patient suffering from this disease die each year. It is obvious that money spend in research of its pathogen’s attributes, such as attributes of genetics, pathology, physics, biology   and est. may help scientists gain plentiful valuable information about this virus, which will help them eventually development medicine to cure this disease. Undoubtedly, this kind of investment is truly in need and indispensable to well-being of mankind.

Besides, whether money should be invested into a certain research project should be determined by whether the result of this research will contribute to progress of our mankind, even if it may cause controversy. Consider, genetic engineering which is a burgeoning scientific research field with the development of molecular biology.  Let me turning to the ADIS example mentioned above. As genetic engineering technology is constantly advancing, we can cure this disease at the gene level(by replacing the abnormal genes modified by HIV which is the pathogen of ADIS with normal ones). However, some people concern that the development of genetic engineering technology may also serve as a foundation for human cloning which is morally and ethically unacceptable. In my opinion, it is necessary and beneficial to develop genetic engineering for its benefits brought to mankind. We should not block investing in this field just because  it may cause moral and ethical controversy

In sum, not all the money spends in research can be judged as good. It should be determined by whether it would contribute to well-being of mankind. Although some research fields may produce controversial results, it should not be the criteria on which whether money should be invested in it is based. We should consider its benefit brought by this research. If investing in a certain research is constructive to development of mankind, this research is sure to be worth investing.

我不知道我的理解是不是对的, 文章说is almost always跟is always不是一个概念，是说几乎总是，似乎你这里理解有的错了，另外有我觉得有一点点跑题了, 主题重心是钱值不值得花在研究上,而你似乎在讨论如何评判何为有价值的研究? 而且文章主题部分跟第一段的中心也有偏颇,没有很好的证明自己的主题.

另外希望在长句上能跟完善，我也需要做的，呵呵！

这个题目是行为类。考虑到这一点再去读题，我觉得这个问题是要站在一个人要不要投资在有争议结果的研究上，而不是什么样的研究可以继续上。我觉得这篇文章的问题在于没有提钱的问题，这在题目中还是很重要的一部分吧。
