147 The following appeared in an editorial in a business magazine.
"Although the sales of Whirlwind video games have declined over the past two years, a recent survey of video-game players suggests that this sales trend is about to be reversed. The survey asked video-game players what features they thought were most important in a video game. According to the survey, players prefer games that provide lifelike graphics, which require the most up-to-date computers. Whirlwind has just introduced several such games with an extensive advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old, the age-group most likely to play video games. It follows, then, that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months."
1.调查的是players,不够全面,不能说明更多的人的加入趋势。
2.Whirlwind 提供的游戏没经过试验,不一定会被玩家喜欢。
3.调查只是问了最重要的一点,还有许多影响因素。
This passage is mainly about the sales trend of Whirlwind video games. According to it, the sales will increase dramatically in the next few months because Whirlwind has improved the place that is important in a video game with the adaption of video-game players’ advise in a survey. It seems believable, but there still exists some unreasonable places that bring me doubts of it.
In the first place, the survey itself is not that believable. The survey just asked video-game players their ideas about the video game without any other people, which is a big problem for that the increasing sales depend not only on the selling to those who are already video-game players, but also to the others to bring them to the team of players. It is well known that the number of people who are not members of video game players is huger than those who are. Consequently, the main market is outside the group of players who are not questioned in the survey.
Secondly, the passage said that Whirlwind has just introduced several such games that provide lifelike graphics with an extensive advertising campaign. Actually, the process of a new production from making out to be on the market is pretty long. It has to go through the protection, small-region experiment, large-region experiment, and so on before it goes to the market normally. How can we say the sale trend is about to reversed when Whirlwind has just introduced those games without the verifying and detection of those? Although they are made to meet the needs of players, there is no one to be able to give a promise that these games will be sold well.
Last but not least, the survey just asked the most important feature that players think. But what will you do if you come across two products that the most important feature you think is all good? Many other features as every product has, consumers always compare not the only one feature but many others although they are not that important. So do video games. The images, flashes, interesting or not, easy or hard, whether related to daily life, and so on, all have impressions on players to effect the decisions of buy or not.
After the analysis above, I can make a conclusion that the result of the passage according to that survey can not be fully dependent on, for the survey itself can not explain many things and has some problems on it. As to decide the trend of sale, people have to do a lot of other things, which can not be as cursory as these.
