"Too much emphasis is placed on role models. Instead of copying others, people should learn to think and act independently and thus make the choices that are best for them"

There is no doubt that role models plays an important role in all sectors of our society. They set certain moral principles and some criterions of our behaviors. They usually give us a guideline toward success, but we should not following their examples blindly without self-thinking.

To begin with, the models in the society set an example for the us, and we can promote our personalities and characters through learning from these models. Heroes are urgent needed in all aspects of our society, for we can improve our personal defect through learning from heroes. An apt illustration is the Washington, who is one of American's most brilliant president. Washington abdicate the power after being the president of American for eight years, although the public advocate he hold the post for another four years. We all see the noble characteristic of Washington, who gain respects from the public and always being remembered by the American people. The presidents after Washington attain his trait, and from now on a regulations that no president can hold the power for more than eight years formed. This regulation is conducive to promote the democracy of our society. As mention above, we can acquire certain qualities from the models, which is beneficial both to ourselves and the society.     

In addition, by imitating these examples that relevant to our careers can we achieve success in the same fields as these models. The models are always some successful persons in certain fields. They achieve success through their perseverance struggle. Their choices at the dilemmas can be used as a reference when we confront the same situation. Their striving tracks to success are valuable for us, for we can follow the way they show for us and obtain success more quickly without taking the detour. Therefore, we can achieve our career goals through learning from these models.

However, we should not blindly copy the actions of the models. We are all different person, each person has his own trait and peculiarity. As an saying goes: Success can not be copied. we just can use the models as an reference, no man is perfect and the models also have some personal defect, so we must distinguish the right from the wrong and judge by ourselves which deeds of the heroes can be imitated. For example, Although we can not deny the achievement Newton made through his life, we still need to notice the mistakes he made in his old years. Then, we should not blindly accept all the things he did as honorable deeds and wrongly follow his examples. So we should be careful when made decisions to follow the models and think and act independently.

To sum up, role models serve as an useful examples in the society. They give us guidance and serves as a light in the dark. We can attain lots of experience and some good characteristics from the examples they set for us, but we should not copy the actions of some famous persons without self-thinking,only in this way we can create a better society in the future.
