According to the title statement, the way people look, dress, and act are indicators of their attitudes and interests and a society's ideas and values can be identified by the observation of appearance and behavior of its people. While I agree that people's appearance and behavior do present some information of themselves as well as the society, I insist that this method may lead to misunderstanding sometimes, and there are other effective ways to achieve the same goal.

First of all, the way people look, dress, and act may, more or less, reveals their attitudes. Teenagers may wear bizarre clothing and lots of cosmetics, pierce their ears and nose, or act rudely to show their individuality and disobeyance to their parents and social rules. An artist may have long hair or beards and some special habits thus acts differently with common people. But for a gentleman, he will probably be modest and polite, smile all the time, and open the doors for women when entering a car or elevator. From the examples above, we can believe that people's appearance and behaviors will show their identity and provides some hints for others to know them.

Further, we can tell much not only about the people themselves but also the society's ideas and values by observing them. A traditional society will emphasize largely on the cultural inheritance and people may like to wear traditional clothes or use traditional etiquette. In a democratic society, people have the freedom to wear what they like and behave freely as long as they don't violate the law. But in some autocratic societies, there are no cultural diversity, and people tend to wear the same clothes. In this sence, people's appearance and behavior helps to reveal the society's ideas and values.

On the other hand, however, the way people look, dress and act may be the result of other factors rather than their attitudes and interests. And there may be understanding of people when merely identify them by their appearance and behavior. For instance, people's wearing may not due to their personal interest but the weather. While in harsh weather people bundle themselves up, in hot and humid climates, they tend to wear little. And a rude behavior of a person may not because of his bad temper but a hasty situation. And for the society, observing its people may cause misunderstanding too.

Finally, I'd like to point out that besides the observation of people, there are more ways to know a society. By studing its history, its policy, and its media we can get more information about the society's ideas and values.

In conclusion, the way people look, dress and act provide a indicator to the their attitudes and interests. And by observing the behaviors and appearance of the people, we can attain some information of a society's ideas and values. But there are misunderstanding to use this method, and we should use other ways instead based on the certain situation.（495 words）
