I agree with the speaker's broad assertion that it is necessary to renew the leadership after a certain period of time since the new leaders would probably bring vigor into leading and managing as well as the fair competition among candidates, moreover, the changing in leadership would effectively prevent the adverse impact of despotism, corruption and abuse of power. However, the absolute five-year period sounds assertive; we should hold an objective view to analyze the specific case before we make any decision considering the change of leadership.
                                                                                                                                                                              
First of all, renewing the leadership after a certain time period would bring significant contribution to maintain the healthy evolution of society. Newly emerged leaders introduce new ways of leading and managing, and they are more likely to keep pace with the changing times as well. Furthermore, the period change in leadership brings the mechanism of impartial competition, through which the candidates courting for leadership would make an all out effort to pursuit outstanding achievement that can add some weight for their possibility to win the election. During such process the candidates not only contribute to themselves but also to public interests of the society as a whole. For that matter, we can see the prominent merits of changing the leadership.

In addition, the periodic change in leadership would also effectively stop the potential negative effects of long-term leading such as despotism, corruption as well as the abuse of power.  Once resigning the position as a leader, the glorious status and power of the former leader were eliminated and, and so were the corruption and despotism, if they did exist. Or otherwise, the whole society may be leaded to chaos and disasters. In feudalistic time, the leader of a country would enjoy a life time leadership which, demonstrated by history, brought destructive impact to society, There is a good case in point, the first real emperor- Qin Shihuang in China’s long history, who was regard as a tyrant, implemented the harsh and arbitrary rules in tax and laws which imposed great burden on public. The despotism of him finally caused the collapse of the entire Qin Dynasty by violent revolution. Simply put the periodic change in leadership would be necessary to keep the sound development of society.

However, the specific time period that is proper for renewing the leadership would be placed more attention to since it is not a straightforward thing for us to decide regarding the diverse situation in different profession. There might be the case that, the frequent change of leadership would decrease the efficiency of leading and managing because of the shortage of experience and acquaintance in dealing with the affairs. Or perhaps the new leader would be despised by his subordinates for his doubtable competence at the very beginning. Taking into account the above demerits of renewing leadership frequently, obviously the five-year fixed term may not necessarily fit for any profession and we should pay more attention to the proper time period which is suitable for the changing. In the realm of business, maybe it is indispensable to renew the leadership more frequently in order to keep pace with the changing demand of market. However, in the realm of politics, it is not reasonable to change leader frequently considering the need to maintain long-term stability of the society. So things would be various when referring to different fields of profession. What we should do is to keep an objective and cautious mind before we make any decision to change the leadership.

In sum, it is necessary and indispensable to renew the leadership after a certain period of time for its great contribution to our society. However, we should analysis the specific case on its own terms rather than drawing the hasty decisions about changing the leadership.


在规定的时间里居然能够把文章写完了，虽然不包括列提纲和找例子，也不包括修改……其实也还远达不到要求，但是我至少看到了限时的可能，有了坚持下去的勇气，多练－－确实是提高的唯一途径！
